imo, it is far from boring, it is so unpredictable - that is what has us obsessed

we really never know what we are gonna get each season

and we can get completely different weather evetns in a short space of time

Why are people on the Glee thread obsessed with Glee?

Probably because the weather here is so terrible and unpredictable that we just want to know when we're going to have good weather and what we may face if it changes or becomes bad?

I don't think it's an obsession with weather so much as a wish for some extreme conditions to break the monotony.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,558 ✭✭✭seven_eleven

I ****ing hate the weather here. It's the #1 thing that písses me off and puts me in a dull mood.

Just earlier I walked down the street to pick up some lunch and it was the most fúcking painful experience of my life. Cold, wet, wind, horror. At least heat is enjoyable, even if it is too hot, which sucks.

As Oasis said, nobody ever mentions the weather, could make or break your day.

Ireland has some of the most changeable and difficult to predict/forecast on the planet for all sorts of whacky geographical reasons. Whats not to obsess over?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,230 ✭✭✭Solair

Ireland, Britain and parts of France do a LOT of talking about the weather because we're on the Atlantic and it changes constantly and is harder to predict.

If you're from some place in the middle of a continent or with very stable weather, there's very little to talk about! It's just cold for X months or hot for X months.

Over here it changes every few minutes.

The reason I ask is because given the narrow limit of weather events that happen, it is always the same ****.
I understand people including myself that want a nice change to the weather (like a bit of snow).
But staying up all night looking at met.ie at the same blue blobs passing over OUR heads trying to predict the unpredictable catastrophic, cataclysmic apocalyptic snow storm is plain mad. By the way im referring to some of the weather fanatics on that LEVEL 2 SUPER SNOW THREAD :p

    fUNNY STUFF THOUGH :)

That weather sounds interesting, and probably explains why we're obsessed.

It's a historical thing from when our crops, livelihoods and if we had enough to food to live depended on the weather.People in poorer countries even with predictable weather patterns wil have a facination with it.Hunger concentrates the mind like you wouldn't believe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 906 ✭✭✭LiamMc

    It's a Cirrus question.

Our weather may not be harmful and therefore Vital to most people in Ireland. But it is a 'neutral' way of expressing an opinion or starting a conversation. Ramping up to more controversial topics like 'Diet', 'Transport' and the most sensitive 'Gardening'.

Because it makes us wince and shiver? because it has a profound effect on our todgers.

It tends to be turbulent, and changeable here more than anywhere and people want to know what the next hour holds in store.. trust me if it was calm and mild and we knew it wasn't due to change much, or anytime soon as is typical in most places it would not be such an ISSUE so work it out

Why are people on the Glee thread obsessed with Glee?

Because they have poor taste in music?

While I can understand the obsession, what I don't understand is the glee and delight some of the posters over on the weather forum have for the current cold snap.

The weather we have at the moment is cold, wet and miserable. Its nothing to be getting excited about.

There are plenty of subforums on here that most will find boring but others find exciting. That is what makes life interesting.
OP....have you considered not visiting subforums that you find boring? Just askin.

What did you expect to find in the weather forum?

It was so warm a couple of days ago I had to open my jacket. Today my face was pelted with snowflakes that felt like stones. It's a bit hard not to at least notice that kind of weather.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,195 ✭✭✭irish son

Because our weather is nearly always bad so we can complain about it alot and we love to complain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,028 ✭✭✭✭--LOS--

because it's so crap, if it was good we'd have nothing to complain about

that and it's so unpredictable which makes it a hot topic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Jay D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭The Scientician

Cos if the weather is bad enough we have no food and if we have no food we cannot eat.

I didn't think slagging off other fora was welcomed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

I lived in Arizona for 2 years. The locals constantly bitched about the weather and many said the weather in Ireland is perfect!!!! 300+ days of sunshine per year, that said it gets hot in the summer

I think complaining about the weather is a human affliction
