Android tablet advice please

I'm looking to pick up an android tablet for herself. I've narrowed it down to the Asus Transformer TF300 and the Samsung Galaxy tab II. Both are in the same price bracket for the 16gb versions and from the looks of it the Asus has the better processor, quad versus dual on the Samsung. Just wondering if anyone has experience of the two or opinions to which would be the better buy. Also is there any other tabs I should be looking at, has to be 10 inch? Finding it harder to find the Asus other than online from Komplett or Pixmania so no option to have a look before I buy, not a deal breaker though. Any advice appreciated.

The idea of the ASUS is nice but it performs terribly. The GF has one that she just uses for web browsing and its so slow and a nightmare to use.

Quad core vs dual core means nothing and is not a comparison of performance.

I had heard good things about it. Not sure if she'll be interested in getting the dock, just want a tablet for general browsing and such. Hardware sounds impressive, is it just that it doesn't implement android very well, I'd have thought they'd have had it nailed seeing as Google had them do the Nexus for them. Any other options out there I should be looking at?

The galaxy tab 2 looks better, but I've no experience with it. The transformer can take 5+ mins just to turn on, and about 80% of downloads fail with no reason.

In that price range, I'd get the Nexus 10 (this way).

Sounds like a bit of work. Is the Nexus much better than the Asus or Samsung? Why in earth don't Google make these things available to everyone, it's like they don't want to sell them. Any opinions on the Kindle Fire?

It's not really that much work, it will be worth it in the end. The Nexus 10 has a better display and ships with stock Android, so less lag.

And yes I do have an opinion on the Kindle Fire. Don't buy it. I thought it had to be 10 inch anyway? Nexus 7 would be the best choice in that size range.

Anyway, if you can afford it get the Nexus 10. If not get the Hero 2.

Apologies didn't realise the Kindle Fire was only 7 inch. I'll have another look at the Nexus option later. Hoping to have it for next week so fingers crossed I can get it in time if I do decide to go the Nexus route. Thanks for the suggestions

Of the two, the Samsung has a slightly better screen and the Asus has a theoretically better processor but I doubt you'll see any difference.

That's a bit mental. I doubt very much that's standard for that model!

Was thinking the same thing myself, gets great reviews anywhere I've seen with the only real gripe was a touch of lag in browsing but nothing that would be a deal breaker and from the sound of it probably be ironed out in updates. Serious hardware for the money, was looking a Galaxy Tab also but specs seem out dated compared to Transformer and not gone on the TouchWiz interface.

Any suggestions regarding reputable Irish (or other) online retailers, only ones I'm aware of are Komplett and Pixmania. Can't find the Transformer in any local stores to get a good hands on, pity.
