Had one lady the other day, usually very quiet, but she just would not let me put on the nose ring at all, started going utterly mental! I just gave up in the end, and used a pouron instead for her. I didn't manage to give her a bullet,....

I guess it depends on what one finds weird or not. Maybe I should have used the word "funny" instead.

Fonterra just lifted forcast payout to $7.50 from $7.00. That's €4.50 from €4.20 roughly. Shortfal of supply from northern hemisphere the reason!

Good enough tractor if it is all manual.

Only thing with them is they are a little light on the rear end.

    1. What was interesting how on such heavy land he could produce good quality grass,
. He never used any other fertiliser other than 10:10:20 to increase P & k and JDI he had a trench open to show how he was draining his land,

Is there anything you took away thinking you might go differently? I suppose the key messages will be in the journal but would have been nice to see the place first hand.

Wet land - Is he dealing with any bottomless bog land? Good at growing quality grass, and plenty of it, but hard to utilise in wet conditions and avoid poaching.

Another question hugo, how deep did he go with his trenches?

On a separate note, happy to see water flowing out of the various new shore drains I put in my place. Land around them got a chance to dry out during the dry spell so I'll be watching it closely to see how thearea copes with this rain. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to roll the land that slopes towards them so still plenty poached ground for the rain water to get trapped in.

varied depending on the ground, backfilled to 8 inches of top of ground and trench depth varied from 12-15 inches

ran moles at right angles to the trench

would seriously consider changing to 10:10:20 as P&K supplement, his message seemed to be look after the god land and use the wet land for silage

yes, he is autumn calving, he uses his wetter land for silage and grazes his dry land, only grazes the wet land with weanlings to avoid poaching
