Interning in the UK

    Greetings,

Does anyone on boards know anything about interning in the UK straight after finishing university in Ireland? Is there much competition for intern places there or would an Irish graduate have a very good chance of getting one? How do working hours in the 2 years interning there compare to Ireland?

    Any comments appreciated. Thank you.

    Its getting more difficult
Foundation years1+2 have replaced old JHO (Junior House Officer) which was equivalent to our internship

If you are willing to travel and work remotely you will get one, in the larger centres it will be more difficult as they have their own students and also others internally in UK who want to return to their hometown and thus someone from here is an unknown quantity

Application date is quite early, well before you have graduated

If you leave it to last minute by sheer weight of numbers over there you are likely to come across a vacant place because of
    • Illness
    • Pregnancy
    • Gap years
    • Failing exams

What if you do the intern year in Ireland, do you have to do the FY2 in the UK or can you just apply to a training programme?

Check the "Intern/SHO Salary" thread, it's been explained pretty well over there (on the last page, I think).
