Looking for 40th birthday ideas on a budget

I'm turning 40 in a few weeks, and looking for ideas to mark the occasion.

Problem: no money - all our surplus money going into house renovations at the moment.

I'm not into parties, so that's okay. I don't mind not having a 'wow' present, because I think the house will b pretty wow when it's done.

I'm recently(ish) married and have a beautiful new son, so life is actually very good. It's just that there is little or no excess money floating around at the moment.

I feel that with just a little imagination it should be easy to find a way of marking this birthday out from the others without having to spend extra money

My imagination seems to have abandoned me, though, because I am totally stumped for ideas.

Any ideas out there would be most welcome!

Whereabouts in the country are you? What about a day out with your family? Take in a few museums or nice scenery, have a picnic (hopefully it'll be a bit warmer by then), just make a day of nice memories together.

Would you believe, I just decided to do that very same thing earlier today! You're so right - memories are priceless after all... Thanks for your reply.

Ah i see you are sorted. Ws just going to suggest somthing like a come dine with me night or soemthing.

Where you can either have it in your own house or perhaps a close friend. Everyone brings a bottle of something and their favourite dish..Share and care evening. lots of people get stomped with present ideas so if you say the presses is the bottle and food I am sure they would be delighted.. I know friends of mine used to do it where they travelled around to differant apartments but they were all on the same block so it made it easier. Can always through in a game of cards and a sing song..
