Driving back from getting food with the Missus and some ar$ehole in a Beamer had his poxy HID lights shining directly at my rear view mirror up me hole on his phone i might add and making matters worse his fog lights were same fcuking colour as his head lights
    That stupid blue colour
Then in me estate a d1ckhead in a ****ty civic driving towards with stupid exhaust on his car and blue xenons and YELLOW fog lights shining in me face
There's no fcukin fog turn them off
No one gives a fcuk about your ar having foglights

I may be on my own but I really think penalty points should be issued when there's no need for dog lights to be on when there is none

    Anyway That's my rant

It is a penalty point offence ;)

Report them if they are not focused properly

I once got penalty points for driving with fog lights.
It was 2pm, middle of the day, full sunshine, and I had them on just by accident as I got a new car, and was checking if they work - just forgot to turn them on.
I didn't manage to drive more than 1 mile before I was caught.

Nct test will weed out the illegally fitted HID in halogen reflector housings.

What puzzels me is correctly aligned fog lights have a lower beam so in theory should cause glare problems. Is it a case that these fog lights are being adjusted upwards by owners ?

I drive with my fogs on, it's force of habit.... Adds extra coverage and especially when you're on road with no streets lights. I feel if I left them off when I actually need them I'll forget I have them. Never had anybody complain about them nor have I ever been pulled over by the guards. Also over the past two days it has been very foggy. I can think of a lot worse offenses I see every day - driving with phone, cutting corers, not using indicators.... NOT using lights & having full beams pisses me off

Foglights give a light very low and literally couple of metres in front of you. Assume 10 metres
If you are traveling at 80km/h, it takes you 0.45 of the second to travel that distance.
Therefore fog light won't change absolutely anything in your view

I have a feeling the ones fitted to my car are rather amazing, because they do make a huge difference to side lighting and directly in-front of you light... if that makes sense? In other words if I'm on a dark road and I put my fogs on I can see sooner if there is somebody on the footpath than just using regular beams? Strange I know.....

Fog lights are basically super bright lights which point directly down on the road and not out in front. They are there to make you more visible to other traffic in cases of severe fog, snow or very severe rain (the like of which we almost never get in Ireland).

They don't help the driver see anything, they're not illuminating your field of view. They are not there to help you see anything (except perhaps in foggy conditions when normal headlights may cause glare).

They can be severely dazzling if used in normal weather conditions at night. This effect is doubled in wet weather when the reflection of the fog lights off the ground can be very bright.

As a general rule, they should almost never be used! If you find yourself driving at 20kph because the fog is so thick that that's as far as you can see, then it would be dangerous not to have front and rear fogs on to make yourself visible to others.

Once there is a car behind you, or you have cought a car in front, turn them off. The car has now seen you, so there is no need to dazzle them unnecessarily. (in the same way you would dip your headlights if you caught up on a car in front).

I see front fogs on all the time- my car is really low down and so i get great usage out of that rear mirror flipper feature most cars have- i dont know of many who know how or have it adjusted right so its usable - but it works great for quickly dimming bright lights from behind.
Its being behind someone with fogs on that is really dangerous- its like they have their brakes on permanently.

    That's not right.
In dense fog they greatly help the driver see what's in front.
Dipped headlights lit much higher, and therefore in dense fog they might just dazzle yourself.
While fog lights lit very low, and therefore make you able to see anything in front of you.

However I haven't seen such a dense fog in Ireland yet, which would make fog lights necessery.

Dodderangler, you live near me right?
It's been fair foggy lately and misty all day today. Wouldn't blame them tonight.

But when it's clear and they're still at it, burn em!

I've never been dazzled by fog lights in my life. And every second car has them on these days. Personally I don't see what the whole drama is all about.

I have been in the same predicament many a time but you just get used to it after time. There is zero you can do or I can do so we just have to carry on and be serious observers of the roads and all other inconveniences unfortunately. I actually like the high blue colour from their lights but sometimes the majority of people will not align their light properly and they will glare in of which is a right pain in jewels.

maybe you drive only in urban areas where they blend in with the light pollution.

If you met a car with fog lights on on a wet night on an unlit country road then you'd know all about it.

but perhaps I'm wrong in my assumption.

Sorry, fog light rants are a dime a dozen in this forum.
Glad you got it off your chest though.
