Hi, I'm travelling with AA to cancun via jfk from dublin in July. We have a 7hr layover at jfk from 11.30 to 18.30 and I'm wondering if anyone has done a similar connection and knows whether they will transfer the bags automatically or will we have to reclaim and recheck them? Im hoping with dub preclearance etc and the ability to head straight to security on our return to jfk that we will have a decent few hours to head into manhattan. Has anyone done something similar? Thanks

Yes, your bags will be checked straight through. Don't think you will have "a decent few hours" to kill in Manhattan though. JFK is one of those airports that take forever to get from A to B. If your flight gets in at 11.30, odds are you won't be off the plane & at the shuttle stop/taxi rank before 12.30. Doubt if you'll be in Manhattan before 1.30. You need to be back at the airport by 4.30, so you'll need to leave Manhattan by 3.30, leaving you a grand total of just a couple of hours really.
