Hey all, been looking at getting a tablet recently as I do a fair bit of travelling and I'm sick of dragging my ancient laptop around with me.

Spotted the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" on amazon.com, which doesnt seem to be available in Europe at the moment. Just wondering if anyone in Ireland has gotten one of these, and whether theres any issues with running it over here regarding apps etc.

They look pretty sweet and seem to be pretty good value too. Would also accept any other recommendations as to what the best tablet is to be looking at. Cheers in advance!

You're very tied in to the Amazon Marketplace with the Kindles. I would recommend a Nexus 7 as it's pure Android, the market place is multiples the size of Kindle and you can download the Kindle App to the Nexus so you can read and sync books with Amazon.

I don't know what the price difference is though but either way I would get the Nexus before the Kindle any day.

Yeah cheers, was looking at those as well. I'd be more interested in a Nexus 10, seems hard to get those over here though. Stupid that they havent released the 10 in Ireland yet

Nexus 7 with the kindle app is great for reading and the ideal size for reading and carrying about.
Nexus 10 is only available from the UK Play store direct from Google, I don't believe they have made it available from any retailers in Europe yet. Youll have to jump through the same hoops the rest of us did with VPNs, UK billing addresses and parcel motel if you want to order but it is well worth it. Look at the sticky thread at the top of the forum on how to order an N4 - it's the same process.

I have a Motorolla Xoom 10" as well for a few years and since I bought the Nexus 7 it hardly sees the light of day.

To be honest the only use it has no is watching videos as the screen on the Nexus 7 is a little small for watching videos but other than that the Nexus 7 is better in every way as the 10" is too big for handholding for extended periods of time.

Yeah the 7 looks nice but I'd be wanting something to watch films and tv shows on as well as browsing and email, cos I travel a lot. Looks as if the Nexus 10 is the best of the 10" tablet range - or would you have any other recommendations?

The Appstore on the Kindle Fire will not work here at all so it's best to go for a Nexus or something along those lines.

Yeah you'll end up side-loading apps on the KF. I do it on mine and it isn't really any bother to me apart from being slightly more time consuming and the icons are not the correct dimensions on the carousel.

Hi, the Kindle App store is now working in Ireland, at least it is for free apps ie Netflix / Facebook / Angrybirds. Haven't tried to buy anything yet.
