Kies not recognising Nexus S

    Hi All

Apologies if this has been done before, I did a load of searches and couldn't find anything that matched.

I have a Nexus S, running Jellybean. I've never bothered backing it up to the PC at all. Got an SIII today, so I want to back-up my photos and whatnot before switching over. Downloaded Kies and connected the Nexus. The phone is showing up as a removable storage device in My Computer, but Kies isn't recognising that there's a device connected.

Made sure the USB storage was turned on on the phone, did the USB connection troubleshooting in Kies about a million times, all to no avail.

Any suggestions? My contacts are all backed up via gmail anyway and I'm not too pushed about apps, but I really don't want to lose all my photos.

    Thanks in advance.

Kies is for Samsung Galaxy range of smartphones.
Your current phone is a Nexus device by Google (manufactured by Samsung) hence Kies won't work with it.

Just browse the USB storage device and copy all the photos from the DCIM folder to your computer.
Download an app called SMS Backup and Restore to save your txts to your USB storage and copy this to your computer too.

You mean O2 lied to me? Shock horror!

Thanks for the advice, I'll do that, then back the SIII up to Kies.

Ok, actually, another stupid question - how do I get the stuff from my computer onto the SIII then?

    Sorry :o

You would just do the reverse. The photos from the old phone are in a folder on say the desktop. Plug in the new phone, set its connection as usb mass storage. Copy and paste the photos from the folder on the desktop to a folder called DCIM(should already exist) on the new phone.
