I got mine done along with a few other things and I was off the crutches after 2 weeks but its a long road ahead. At 7/8 week you will be fine for your wedding but I wouldn't be expecting to be jumping around the place. My advise would be to get your legs as strong as you can before the op, it helped me recover a lot quicker. I had a different op on my other knee before and did no prep beforehand and my quad was like jelly after the op and had to start from scratch rebuilding it again.

The surgeon said there is some cartilage damage aswell so that will have to be taken into account.have you any tips on prep work?i have 7 weeks until the op

I'd cartilage removed too. I just did weights for my legs, whatever I was capable of doing mobility wise that didn't cause me pain. I'd also strengthen the hamstrings. I had 2 tendons removed from my hamstring and drilled into my knee as my new ligament. So you may get the same op or they might do the patella on the front of the knee.

do lots of cycling/swimming is your best hope or you can just go to the gym but thats boring,u will be able to move around fine after 8 weeks but at ur wedding im guessing u mite be drinking which is not a good idea as u forget about it and could easily rupture it again, if u could reschedule your op til after wedding it will give u more time to build muscles in ur legs as ur man said above which does helpas uve alot of physio ahead

how did you rupture urs, mine was sports injury, im just wondering if u did urs from sport as well, have u gone back playing yet??, i havnt as im too afraid it will tear again and its not worth it to go through it again. missing work n all that.....

I've had both knee's done, Tadhg O'sullivan did the surgery the last time back in Dec 2011. I was off the crutches after the 3 weeks, it takes approx 4-6 months for the new ligament heal fully so while you'll be grand for walking at the wedding, don't go crazy on the dance floor

as mentioned above be sure to do as much strength work as you can before the surgery. Plenty of single leg squats and deadlifts.

one thing to keep in mind also is to get your leg straight asap, within the first few days, after the surgery, I was never told this and had to go through some unnecessarily painful exercises to get it right. Know another guy who was overly lax about his rehab and now he cant straighten his leg at all!

Yeah playing football was the initial injury that eventually got worse and then my knee buckled from under me 1 day, heard the snap, knew straight away. I decided not to go back playing ball for a number of reasons. I just didn't think it was worth it, plus 2 tendons were taken from my hamstring to give me a new ligament so what if I did it again, would they take my other 2 tendons? And then what am I left with. If I ever had kids it would kill me not to be able to run around n have a kick with them. Plus a year or 2 before it I was playing at the highest level I was gona be at so my career was winding down to lower levels anyway. After my op I can honestly say my legs have never been in better condition and I do think I could go back playing ball if I wanted to. But if I couldn't give it 100% what would be the point. I also think my knees are in such good shape because of squatting. I could never do it before but started doing BW squats as part of my rehab. The more I did it the better my knees felt. I used to always get pain from sitting too long or even sitting on the bus or standing too long without moving but now all that's gone and my legs feel great. I eventually moved onto proper squatting with weights and its something I do regularly now.

Yeah v good advise. Plus they will get you to walk with you crutches and not hop. So don't come off your crutches until you can put full pressure on your leg and straighten it properly.

Hey,I eventually put of the surgery until after the wedding.got it done 1st of September last year,8 mths ago.just curious to see how ye felt at around that stage?
I was pretty good and did the excercises and it's built back up almost the same as the good leg.never had any issues with it,the surgeon was happy with the recovery.ive started back running lately but my good leg seems to get noticeably more tired,as if it's doing more work.also my operated knee can be a bit stiff,if I stretch it it's fine but stiffens up again pretty soon.just wondering how ye were at this stage.thanks in advance

Good to hear the op went well, I was pretty much back in full swing by the 8 month mark. I used to get a bit of stiffness too but the stronger my legs got and the more I squatted the better my knees felt and the stiffness stopped. I can't recommend squatting enough. Make sure you work your hamstrings too. Your legs may be just adapting from starting running again or operated knee leg muscles maybe still a bit weaker and the opposite leg is compensation. I did a lot of single leg stuff too. Also look at your running mechanics and the footwear your wearing.

Yea to be honest they are my only concerns at the moment.i did a kettle bell class there for 2mths,mainly squatting, helped big time.
I did a 10k last weekend, could just feel my good leg under pressure at the end.

It's a tough progress I wasn't expecting but I'm nearly there thankfully.did you go back to sport yourself?i was playing soccer when I did mine

No never went back to sport but plenty of people do. It was a personal choice not to though, that I mentioned in the posts above, it just wasn't worth it for me.
