Company closed, no wages paid

A friend was working in a fast food place in town, they closed down recently owing most of the staff wages. All are non nationals. Turns out he was drip feeding them all wages paying them a bit here and there. He now says he has no money to liquidate. My friend has contacted Nera and has filed a complaint. Is there any…

A friend was working in a fast food place in town, they closed down recently owing most of the staff wages. All are non nationals. Turns out he was drip feeding them all wages paying them a bit here and there.
He now says he has no money to liquidate. My friend has contacted Nera and has filed a complaint.
Is there any hope of getting the money owed? I'm not holding out much hope
