When do I declare a claim?

Last year my wife had an accident in my van. There was no claim at the time but 2 months ago the personal injury claim arrived.

I have since got rid of the van and now only have one car, and the renewal is up at the end of the month. My question is do I declare the pending claim now, or wait until it is actually completed? Does the impact on my new quote not depend on the size of the claim awarded?

I'm at work at the minute so I can't ring them up. I was about to get a quote online but no doubt I'll be told to ring up if the claim is to be declared now.

I'm not trying to pull a fast one or anything, just not sure if the claim is declared now or when it is settled.

PS, assuming that the claim must be declared now, who's good for car insurance these days?

Ignore me, I've Googled some more and I think I have he answer. Claim must be declared right away and it will be a pain in the ass getting a quote.

Also, as the claim is still "open" you'll have to stick with the same insurer. No one else will quote you while its still in progress.
Then, for at least five years after, you'll be with them as well. Ask me how I know..!!

How much is the insurance likely to rise? My renewal quote without the pending claim was €520.

It's impossible to say what your renewal will be not knowing any details (or even with details) but they can pretty much charge what they like as they know you won't be able to move.
