This gets good reviews everywhere and is a well known player. The fact that it has a radio built in is a big plus for me. I want one, but i won't know if i can get one until later, as i am unsure of funds at the moment. :(

    Sandisk Sansa Clip+ 4GB MP3 Player - Blue With FM Radio - £20.80 + £1.99 Postage.

There is a code that works, but i am unsure if it includes discount on postage.

Code is checkoutplus for 3% off everything.

Just Found another code - Slightly more off - STAY5 - Not sure what Percentage off it is though..

    product-24241.jpg&w=223&h=223

    - The Clip Zip - White version is also available for £24.98 (Didn't realise it was a different model, thanks BostonB)

These are shipped from Jersey, so there may be a VAT charge of 22% on the €0.75cent over €22... (If anyone wants to work that out, feel free.)

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/customs/leaflets/pn1882.html

I doubt it, but may be some over zealous postal worker. Altogether these total at €22.75 before postage.

While the radio works in my experience (we have two of them) its quite poor reception wise. If the "radio is a nice to have" you will be ok with it. But its a lot worse than any other radio I have on other players or any mobile phone I ever had.

For music though its one of thee best sounding MP3 players.

I had two of these which I lost. Great little things, especially if using during running/exercise. Thanks OP.

Thats not a clip thats a zip, the newer model. Colour screen and replaced the mini-USB found on the Clip+ with a micro-USB connector. That means you can use smartphone chargers and USB cables on it.

Decent price too. I'd really like an Orange one though....

+1 - that Zip really is a bargain at that price. Just bought two - used discount code and didn't get charged any shipping for delivery to Ireland. Total cost £48.47.

    Cheers OP!

    Damn you Bargain Alerts.

This is better and its 8.35 delivered

    or 8gb for 12

The Clip and Zip are a cut above. For the price you won't get a better dedicated music player. And they're the size of a match box, too.

This is a bargain alert thread for Sansas - we aren't all here to debate with you why a cheaper mp3 player is/isn't better. The price the OP directed me towards for the Zip is £10 cheaper than I have ever seen it for before so to me thats a great bargain alert.

I have used Zoombits quite a bit over the past few years and found them good pricewise on flash memory etc. but just be aware they are based in Jersey so you will get hit for import duty on items above the set limits of revenue.

You are nearly better to order a few single items then get them all sent in one package in my experience

Thanks OP - brilliant prices. Went with the Zip as I got an 8GB Clip+ (£42) six months ago and hoping for slightly better Radio (the Zip has RDS too).

Concur with the others that Clip+ Reception is not the best (occasional dropouts/retuning required on the move) - but MP3 & FLAC offers really superb sound for something so compact. The clip holds it securely in place too. An 8GB MicroSD lets you haul a massive music/podcast/audiobook library around. Voice and radio recorder for good measure too.

The clip+ despite minor reservations over the radio is a steal at £21.

Rustedcore, it's a high spec audio device - FLAC capability alone demonstates that and State-side the Sansa has always been a seriously priced competitor for the Ipod.

Curious if any of you got confirmations of your orders from zoombits yet? I placed my order just after 2pm and got the immediate email from paypal confirming payment to "ROK MEMORY LTD". I'm wondering if something went wrong with mine that I didn't get charged postage yet the order went through. When I go into my account on zoombits it shows a status "awaiting verification".

Actually FLAC is just a file format. Just because something supports it, doesn't mean it actually has good audio circuitry, to produce good sound. Lots of devices support Lossless , FLAC, ALAC even WAV/PCM files but have mediocre sound.

Like the original Shuffle, the Clip/Zip sound good perhaps because there wasn't room except for very simply and clean electrical paths and a decent AMP/DAC.

it would need an amp for that... do you know if it has one?

I am using a pair of these with it http://en-de.sennheiser.com/dj-headphones-noise-reduction-hifi-stereo-hd-25-1-ii and all flac files as stated. i have used other more expensive players and phones with same headphones and files and the sansa clip audio quality trumps them all by a mile. The battery life is grand, depends on how much use like any other rechargable item. Needs an amp?wont even respond to that.

Battery life is good too. Usually get about 15 hours out of mine (though i think installing rockbox boosts that a bit - i highly recommend you do install it by the way; it makes a great mp3 player that much better).

I am saying that all devices produce the same sound through the same headphones unless they have an in built amp or different equalizer settings which makes a tiny difference.

If what you guys are saying is not just brand biased then it has an amp

tried installing rockbox using the installer and it goes through the procedure sucessfully but when i reboot its still the original firmware.any ideas thx?

Er what? Where are getting this info? Are you just making it up?

The iPods don't come with decent earphones. Never did. The current ones are just ok. Certainly they can't make a poor sound better. Most of Apples current devices sound pretty good anyway.

Ever audio device has an amp. You wouldn't hear anything if it didn't.

If you want big battery life. Buy a big battery. This is the size of a matchbox. What do you expect? The Clip/Zip run off USB external power/battery just fine, and its a standard connection. So you can charge it easily.

I've an older 8GB Sansa Clip (w/o the microSD slot) and, apart from the sound quality, one of the things I most like about it is the long battery life (largely due to the absence of an LCD screen, which is pretty superfluous if you just listen to radio/mp3s). It lives in the pocket of my rain jacket and I listen to it while walking the dog — i.e. an hour or two every day. I usually get about a week or 10 days between charges.

I've bought a good few of those generic Chinese jobs from eBay for the kids and they've all stopped working within months. My Sansa is about 8 years old and still going strong.

Hmmm.... I know you can boot the original firmware if you hold left when switching it on.
You have to have the most recent sansa clip firmware (i assume you do seeing as it went through the procedure successfully.
Is there a rockbox folder on your sansa clip then? It should be in the root directory if i recall correctly.

Did you install it manually or use the bootloader?
Try looking through the thread herefor a solution?

ah this is american stock is it
The EU restricts volume levels for music players... I assumed these were Eu stock of the item.

Oh and boston I have built mp3 players from parts while watching a movie and chatting on the phone .... dont argue against a point if you dont know what it is.

    All devices have an amp.

I don't think you'll understand it but some info is here...
Like previous Clip and Fuze products, the Clip+ retained a directly coupled headphone amplifier, allowing for highly accurate reproduction of bass frequencies and very low distortion on difficult to drive headphones.[4]
The Sansa Clip+ proved popular with audio enthusiasts and programmers because of its very low cost, excellent DAC, and relatively mature rockbox port, which substantially improved battery life and added features such as parametric EQ, completely gapless playback[clarification needed] and AAC audio playback.[5]
The Clip+ replaced the discontinued Sansa Clip, with which is shared nearly identical hardware aside from the SD slot

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SanDisk_Sansa

Officially battery life is Up to 15 hours of playback. But that depends on how you use it, bitrate of the files used etc.

Restricted or not, they still have an amp. Things can have an amp and still sound dire.

With the Clip you just change region to remove the firmware lock on volume.

Here's something weird. - Weird because it's reviewed by the same people.

    Sansa Clip - http://www.whathifi.com/review/sansa-clip-8gb
    5 out of 5 Stars
A worthy Apple alternative, the Clip+ is small, simple to use and sounds solid. We like it[/SIZE]

    Sansa Clip Zip - http://www.whathifi.com/review/sandisk-sansa-clip-zip-4gb
    3 out of 5 Stars
The Clip Zip looks good on paper but fails to deliver fully in practice

    - I just found out, that the different reviews are because of the noise restriction on the EU. If you change the Region to USA then the restriction is removed (I think it was already mentioned in this thread.).

I left the reviews up in case anyone else see's them and is slightly confused as to why they are so different.

I haven't ordered yet, I have €259 left on my debit card.. :( and i think i need about €235 - €245 of that, so i have to wait. I won't know until this evening. - Hopefully these will be still in stock.

I'd say you could cancel it from this page - http://www.zoombits.co.uk/help-centre

    Specifically - http://www.zoombits.co.uk/contact-us

Especially if you explain to them why.

I have not bought one... i personally dont think it is a bargain, but that just my opinion.

Zoombits is good... but since the revenue import crackdown, its not worth ordering anything over €12 from them due to import fees.

Also OP, in all fairness - you should state in your opening post that zoombits is based in Jersey... so all (or at least most) of people who order the mp3 player will be hit for import duty and a €6 An Post handling fee as well as the delay it will take to come through customs

I can see this thread decending into the same problems that the focal price tablet thread on BA became... Boardies contacting revenue to find out where their packages are and countless posts of lads and lassies wondering how to track their packages and "where is mine?" questions.

Regarding your "awaiting verification" status... you will get that all the time with zoombits... it just means that you order has not been picked or verified that it has been paid for by someone in the warehouse/offic on their side.

@ donnacha... Email them and cancel your order citing a misorder on your behalf... they are very helpful in zoombits and will refund you i am sure. Otherwise you will be facing another €10 or €12 in duty and anpost fees.

    C. Consignments of Negligible Value

Consignments not exceeding an intrinsic value of €150 may be imported from outside the EU without payment of Customs Duty. Intrinsic value is the value of the goods alone and does not include insurance and freight). Consignments not exceeding a total customs value of €22 may be imported without payment of VAT. (Customs value is the value of the goods plus insurance and freight (which includes postage costs (CIF value).
Where the Customs Duty on a consignment of goods amounts to less than €10 it will not be collected. Similarly, VAT liability amounting to less than or equal to €6 will not be collected. No similar rule applies in the case of Excise Duty which will always be collected on products liable to it.

Also, i didn't know they were based in Jersey.

Fair enough... was wrong with thinking its €12... but its still only €22 which means your €26 BA has a high probability that it will incur import duty and a An Post €6 charge.

You should re-edit your first post in include this information for people... otherwise your going to have boardies incur these needless extra charges if they order it.

Im not going to spend the next page or two debating revenue limits and terms with you... it friday and the weekend is here after all. :D

Revenue will still delay the package because its coming from Jersey and revenue will get buyers to email them in their paypal transactions to see what they paid Including postage. They will find and charge duty if they see fit. They seem to be hungry for it since the crackdown.

Im not having a go at you at all, but you should at least cover your own arse in your opening post Allyall and state that the seller is in Jersey and that there might be a possibility of customs and An Post fee being charged... otherwise you will have a few pissed off boardies who might be hit with a charge they didnt know about cause they were not informed the seller was outside the EU.

Just in case anybody is still sitting on the fence, I have the 8GB Clip+ and it really does sound good, noticeably better than other devices I have compared it to.

But if you use bad earphones it will sound the same as any other device. I recommend people spend about $300 on high-end headphones to go with this player ;)

    Or I just use these, they sound good to me;

Revenue take into account of the full amount including postage... not just the amount above the first €22.

So it would be 23% of the total including postage plus an added €6 by An Post

Lots of 1 star reviews on Amazon for the Clip Zip!

I think the Clip+ might be the one to go for?

Edit: The Clip+ (or Clipplus as they call it...) seems to be 'gone' from their site.

Thankfully my paypal confirmation had a phone number on it. Got through to a very helpful chap straight away who was able to explain why my order wasn't processed. Anyway worked out well as I was able to get him to cancel the order.

Could you post that number please Donnacha as my paypal confirmation bizzarely has none.

Luckily, I'm still in 'awaiting verification' limbo - "unluckily" one Zip coughs up €6.63 import VAT ie. 63 measly cent over threshold, attracts €12.63 in extras if they "open the box"
