Hi, I was wondering has anyone bought the latest FX8350?
If so what do they think of it and have they ran the patches that you can ask microsoft for?
I have an FX8150 in my 4th rig and after watching this video it has me tempted to try the patches and if they work upgrade to a FX8350 and put in a high end gpu.
I got the patch info from this and the fps in it makes it a tempting proposition.

I am pretty sure they are included s hotfixes if you have windows 7 completely up to date, and they were always incorporated into windows 8. As I recall it made a few % difference but nothing major.

To be honest I think you need to resist that upgrade gremlin telling you to get an FX 8350 and hold out for steamroller to make it worthwhile :pac:.

As much as I actually agree with the broad sentiment of the video, and speaking as somebody who has a very soft spot for AMD, there is just no way in hell an FX 8350 is getting over double the fps of the i5 in Far Cry 3 with a GTX670 unless the reviewer is dishonest or incompetent.

I would trust that Techspots review is a much more accurate representation of that games CPU performance.

Your probably right and with that, I will probably leave it until steamroller before upgrading.
I am already upgrading my main rig to a 3930k at the end of the month (have the rampage iv extreme for it :) )and putting the 3570k into my 5th rig so have to finish off that first before upgrading more again.

Sorry to jump in and hijack, but has there been a general release date for Steamroller?

I've been eyeballing an FX8350 build (my current PC is as old as warfare with an AM2 Athlon 5600+ cpu), but if Steamroller is due soon then a month or two more wouldn't hurt.

No firm date yet, it is likely to be the end of the year at the earliest I'd expect. Although the link I have posted in the next paragraph says June for the unveiling of the FX line, the prevailing thought seems to be that we will not see them until the tail end of the year at the very earliest.

Kabeni the first APU with steamroller cores is due in June/July 2013, so at least we should all know by then whether steamroller will be a significant improvement again over piledriver, or if all AM3+ owners should just jump on the good ship Haswell :p.

I taught steamroller would have been out sooner :(. With it that far off it might be worth upgrading the rig to one of these.
If i sold the 8150 could get 60% of the cash towards it maybe then could do bench marks for my self on 3930k, 3570k and FX8350 with the patches and see for myself what the difference is. :P

Well considering I held onto a HD4870 for dear life for about 3 1/2 years and still have an 965BE, one could argue that my upgrading strategy is a little too conservative ;)

    4870 was a monster though.

    4870 was a monster though.

It was in all fairness, it took until the HD 7850 before there was a card offering w about double the performance in roughly the same price bracket.

Even when I sold it was still managing most games on almost all high settings @1080p (Absolutely no AA of course). The last three games I played on it were Crysis 2, MP 3 and Skyrim and it managed them all very well.

I sold it and didnt try it out with strategy games unfortunately. I will be picking up an FX8350 though and when I get that I could compare it against my i5 3570k, 2600k, 3820 and i7 950 to see how it performs. I don't have many strategy games though so might be limited.
