I sold a broken MacBook Air for parts/repair on adverts. The laptop needs a new motherboard. The buyer now wants me to text him the address details etc that were inputted into Apples system when it was originally purchased so they can pay to get it fixed through Apple as opposed to a third party.

I don't feel safe giving details out like that. Does the buyer really need them?

I was afraid of this. He has the name but not the address. Surely he could just tell Apple he bought the laptop from a site for parts/repair and that he was the new owner?

What data could hd steal by having a name and an address?

Also, what should I reply to him with?

I told him I couldn't provide him with the address. This what he replied:

"No worrys. Hopefully the name should suffice. I booked an appointment with Apple service so I should be ok. It was only in case they asked. Cheers"

Would Apple not fix the laptop for him if he brought it in and they saw on the system that it was registered to a different name? He originally said he wanted the details so Apple wouldn't think he stole the laptop. I suppose that makes sense.

I'm sure you know a HD can never be totally wiped clean of your data....I personally would never sell a computer.

There is an option within the Mac OS to zero the whole drive.
