Recommendation for an ultra quiet liquid cooler?

    Hi,

I already got help with a custom build so i know what setup i'm going with...i was just wondering if anyone knows of an affordable silent liquid cooler? The motherboard is an AsRock z77 extreme 4 LGA1155. I just added that in if you need to know which model would fit.

The hydro 55 is supposed to be quiet but still seems to be a bit high for my liking.

what type of OC are you looking for? what's your budget? H80 plus some decent fans will work. gentle typhoons are the best fans in the business, but ugly as all hell.

Any particular reason it has to be liquid cooling (i.e. extreme OC)? I've got a very quiet case to level you need to stick an ear next to it to hear if it's on simply by having a very good airflow in my chassi (8 large fans in total all on low revs) and a top of the line air CPU cooler (Noctua NH-D14) to keep it quiet (keep in mind the liquid in the liquid cooler also needs to be cooled down which usually involves fan and generate noise).

To be honest i don't know much about overclocking...i'll be using the z77 extreme 4 mobo with an i7 3770k cpu...so whatever is relatively safe but efficient i suppose. I really won't be bothered by how the fans look...they'll be inside the case and the only one i could probably catch a glimpse of will be the back fan through the grill so i can live with ugly fans! I can afford up to 80, but the cheaper it is the happier i'll be...obviously i don't want to scrimp if i'm paying for an inferior product.

What case have you got, and is there a price limit?

Fractal Design: Define r4 black pearl. I can afford up to around 80 euros...the whole build is just touching 1200 at the moment so if i can get something cheap but practical i'll be happy.

I dunno if you really need a liquid cooler then. A decent air cooler with a good fan will probably be quieter to be honest. Temperatures won't be quite as good, but to get the most out of water, you'd probably want around €120 or so.

I'd grab a Hyper 212 EVO and stick a Gentle Typhoon on it.

Thanks for the advice! Do you reckon it'd be sensible to use the gentle typhoon fans to replace the stock fans on the case or will i get by as it is?

If you're going for ultra quiet, I'd replace them all.

Mine Arc Mini comes with a little PCI fan controller yoke, if your Define R4 has one, I'd hook all the fans up to that, and run them at whatever the lowest speed is that you can tolerate in terms of temperatures.

If you want silence and still have some wiggle room to overclock then this is a really good cooler.
