Eviction of dying woman...

A terminally ill woman, who was subjected to a failed eviction attempt, will leave her home if emergency accommodation can be secured.

There were ugly scenes at the home of Breda Hattaoui (60) yesterday when an attempt was made to evict her from the home – a move arising following a family dispute.

Dublin city sheriff James Barry arrived at the house on Susanville Road, near Clontarf, at around 11am but a man – who identified himself as Don Bowler, and is understood to be an anti-eviction advocate – was in the house and threatened anybody that came near.

The sheriff eventually withdrew, citing medical grounds. However, he has said that it was still his intention to vacate the house.

Ms Hattaoui's daughter Nadia, who lives in the house with her mother, told the Irish Independent that they would leave if emergency accommodation could be found.

She said her mother, who has cancer, had nowhere to go if she was forced out.

"We need accommodation, we've been saying that for years," she said.

Seems a bit harsh to say the least, I'm presuming its rented accomodation? Tough if you are a landlord who needs money but its says 'eviction arising form a family dispute' sounds heartless either way really

And the part "I always said we needed accommodation", surely that's what they had?

Jaysus her family must really hate her but we don't know the circumstances, I can say with certainty that I'd have no problem doing that to certain family members!

Where did you source that article? It's rare to see a paragraph of text provide so little useful information.

.. but provide just enough information to allow people to fill in as much as possible themselves to suit whatever agenda the 'newspaper' in question wants to promote, as usual.

Dublin city sheriff James Barry arrived at the house on Susanville Road, near Clontarf,

    Near Clontarf?
It's off Clonliffe Road in Ballybough / Drumcondra, just north of Croke Park.
May as well say near Cork.

Who is the eviction being actioned on behalf of?

The article states it's the result of a family dispute. If so, it's not landlord or bankers or any of that other anti-bail out bollox. This is not really a matter that warrants public attention at all.

Does anyone else find this picture of Don Bowler kind of funny? He looks a bit like a henchman from a Bond film.

It's a family dispute, house must be left to someone else. If she was not dying it would not be news and tbh it's still not news.

Poor woman...but she wont be any less dying if she is allowed to stay.

yeah sadly you are right its not news really, i find hard to imagine what actions would warrent a dying woman tossed out on the street all the same

Looks like he's the reason for her distress rather than the eviction.

I suspect there is a lot more to this story than the Indo coverage, according to the Irish Times ....

The eviction proceedings follow a family dispute over the sale of the property. It is understood that the occupants had previously agreed to leave but had not done so and that they had been given a sum of money to assist them in 2006.

Remember the last eviction the Indo covered ? The older couple in Killiney with investment properties coming out their ears??

Ah the Indo, they have a link to that story on the the same page as the story is on (I thought it might contain more information). Their revamp had banjaxed the whole website methinks.
