About to replace my old build from a few years ago and have (kinda) :) settled on the below.

Would like some advice on it and especially on the monitor.

Going to use it for gaming, watching movies and development work...

    I already have a new'ish Radeon 7850 2 gig Gfx card, 830 SSD and a couple of SATA drives....windows 8 64bit

and am now thinking of buying:

    Core i5-3570K CPU

    Asus P8Z77-V LX Motherboard

Fractal Design Define R4 PC Case - Titanium/Grey

    Patriot 8GB (2x 4GB) 1600MHz Dual Channel DDR3 Viper 3

Be Quiet! CM BQT L8-630W PSU Pure Power

    Monitor

Asus PA238Q 23 inch Widescreen 1080p Full HD LED Monitor

    or

    Dell UltraSharp U2312HM 23

    or

    Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24

    or ?

    Budget - about 800

Good choices. I'd go with an ASRock board (simply because they're cheaper, and just as good as ASUS boards. Have a look at the Extreme4) and I'd have a look at a lower wattage PSU (unless you're planning on upgrading your graphics card any time soon) as a good 450W unit would power all that just fine.

cheers - think I'll drop down to a 530W and save a few quid so. I can get the asus lx cheaper than the asrock extreme 4, so will probably stick with that one.

Think I'm finally happy with the components but need some help still on the monitor

    Asus PA238Q 23 inch

    or

    Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24

for gaming - fps, and movies....thoughts?

I'd go with the Dell because it is slightly bigger, 16:10 and much nicer looking IMO. :). According to this review is pretty decent for gaming as regards input lag etc.

Incidently if you decide on a 23" instead according to the panel search on TftCentral, that Asus PA238Q uses a very similar, if not identical one to the U2412HM which is much cheaper.

thanks, I didn't see that search feature - interesting, as you say pretty much the same panel and 50 quid cheaper...can't argue with that
