Hi all, just wondering does anyone here work for FAS as a permanent employee, Im just curious are the wages good for the trainers who work there and tutor computer workshops, courses etc? I have some background in these skillsets and after completing a FAS course, I looked into positions in FAS but was told they are not recruiting now, I get the feeling the trainers are on quite high wages and have lots of perks, but this is just secondhand info, so I would appreciate if anyone who has worked there can describe it- wages, hours etc.

Also, am i right in saying FAS employees are civil servants or just private sector employees?

ive been doing alot of fas courses lately covering the past year and a half
unemployed here but my first fas course (i wont say where or who because im sure he would probably get offended) haha
anyhow over a year and a half ago i met the instructor , nice chap friendly with everyone, ever since knowing him we've been like best buds, go for drinks with him and his OH every now and again so ive gotten to know him on a more personal level

he told me hes on top wages , earns 40k+ a year after tax
was joking around with him one day and said sure your loaded mate and he just says i ONLY earn 40k+ a year then i said wow thats impressive he said thats after tax haha

so to answer your question , their much better paid then teachers , their salarys go up every year as he said
he owns an 11 beamer (says it all really) and he gets all sorts of benefits , including i think it was 30days paid holidays? cant be too sure on that now

so yes if you become an instructor your pretty much sorted
his job is pretty easy to be honest because he teachs pretty basic things to people and they get their certs , he lives a very comfortable life
at least hes not stingy though :D always great to bring to the pub with haha

( all this was his words so im just basicly repeating, whether its true or not i dont know, id like to find out if it is though because its very good life style with that money )

Yes, someone working there for quite some time would likely be earning 40,000 + per year but that is not a large salary. It's an ok salary is you single and don't have many overheads.

People who work for FAS are Public Sector Workers, they are not Civil Servants and also take into account that a lot of trainers in FAS are on contract work they are not FAS employee.

considering he has no children he has a nice life
hes on contract work between fas's but 40k a year after tax is very nice salary compared to today
im sure a few years ago he was earning quite a alot more although i wouldnt know that im not nosy enough :P
it seems like an easy job though, since your basicly just teaching the one subject and most fas courses are pretty basic stuff like ecdl course, and the fact your dealing with adults helps

As a FAS teacher that I once had said "some of you will be hear to learn, some to get out of your house, and some to stop the nagging" - not everyone will be there by their own choice and can be as disruptive as your average school going teenager, as they never grew up.

At the time, most of the FAS teachers needed X amount of industry employment to get a job teaching you a skillset for said employment, to ensure that they're not just reading the book to you.

well im speaking from my experience
so far (even though i have been forced to do 3 courses out of the 4) all the instructors have been lovely and everyone in the class has been nice
bar 1 incident , but suppose theirs always going to be 1 in any group haha
