I have bought a car that has been insured & taxed but not nct'd for 2 years.
If I take it for an NCT do I pay for the years it missed?

if it is PAST the renewal date you will escape the last 2 years and have a 2 year NCT running from when the expiry would have been this year

No you dont, you'll just get a new NCT which will be valid until the cars renewal date.
What year is the car and when was the date of first registration, that will tell you when the renewal date is.

If it is within 3 months of the 'renewal' date, you can test it and if it passes you will get a cert for either 12+ months (if the car is more than 10 years old) or 24+ months otherwise. '+' meaning the no. of months to existing renewal date.

It doesn't work the same as road tax, you are not in arrears for the previous years that you owned the car and have not paid tax. The next NCT date will be worked out as per above posts, based on date of first registration, every 2 years on the same day for the first 10 years, and then every year after that.

Why bother with the scam? If it was a genuine test they would give you 2 years from the day of test.

    What scam???

Also, if the car is over 10 years old, you only get a certificate for 1 year.

@OP Why didn't you just cancel the tests you missed (other thread) within the 5 working days period? Also, did you not know about the retest fee?

Can't see you getting out of paying what you owe them without a lot for messing (this car, next car, the car after that etc.).
