I am a fully qualifed carpenter / foreman with over 16 years experience. My previous employer was one of Irelands leading Interior Construction companies who I was with for over 12 years, final 5 as a working foreman. I have an excellent CV and references. I am extremely hardworking and reliable and am ready to work immediately. Appreciate any help anyone can offer.

    Have you thought about emigrating?

Have you tried signing up to those online handyman/tradesmen websites? I've used them for tilers, plumbers and electricians and know others that have done so too. A lot of people these days live in new estates and suburbs where they will not personally know nearby tradesmen so these types of websites are popular (particularly in Dublin)

Call to/register with every recruitment agency that specialises in work that involves carpentry so that they have your CV on file.

Blitz your local supermarket notice boards advertising your services.

Start or keep networking with past colleagues/clients to see if there is any new work going.

If you know someone who is handy with websites, ask them to design you a website (or pay a company to do so for you) so that you can pitch your skills and expertise. Provide imagery of past projects you worked on as well as testimonials from past clients endorsing your work. Ensure you set up for internet search optimization so that random potential customers will stumble across your services online. Create a Facebook page to increase exposure for your services.

All these options may not guarantee continuous long term employment but anything is better than nothing these days and may very well lead to future success via word of mouth etc.

Best of luck - I know it's particularly tough out there for the trades/construction industry.

I reckon Ongarboy has everything covered, I have used this site to find tradesmen and the people I found were pleased with the amount of work the site had brought them. Definitely worth a try. I'm not sure where you are based but I heard that MKN are taking on carpenters for the 60 apartments development on the site of the Dollymount House. Best of luck, stay positive. I definitely feel a change in the air this year, friends of mine who are tradesmen have noticed their phones ringing a bit more now than last year.
