This post was born out of my dislike for dealer branded surrounds, must get mine off the car.

The first thing I always do is remove any plate surrounds or dealer stickers on any car I've owned.

I don't think that metal plates suit modern cars for some reason.

Is it possible to ask a dealer to take all of their ****e off a car before you collect it? I always found it laughable that you can spend €20k on a car and end up driving around as a mobile advertisement for the dealer...

I think the plate type depends on the car. Some cars look better with metal pressed plates but there are others that look better with plastic. Im not so sure that pressed metal would look as good on my car as the plastic ones tbh.

    No surrounds either way.

Which begs the question, OH car has a huge sticker, tried to remove it but VERY sticky, it also is over rear screen elements, any safe way to remove it without damaging the elements?

Im inclined to agree tbh. When I think of pressed metal plates I usually think of older or classic cars.

Warm it slightly (hairdryer) then peel off what you can. Let the residue dry then use WD40 to clean that off.
If the residue is still warm and soft you'll make a terrible mess that will break your heart BTW so let it dry/go cold completely.

Pressed Metal plates with no surrounds, are usually found along with a yellow 1 in the back window, or a we try harder sticker.

Metal with a surround means some poor fecker in the valeting bay has probably ripped his hands to shreds trying to get the plate in the surround.

Vinyl with no surround looks like an import.

Vinyl with a surround blends in nicely.

i try to remove all car dealers advertising from the car stickers and reg plate surrounds, but on the car i have now the dealers name is actually on the reg plate itself, they have since gone out of business so the free advertising i was giving them i guess didn't work.

    Pressed metal ftw, :)

A few exceptions though, brand spankers tend to look good with the plastic plates that have - Not sure how to describe it, but, a slightly narrower, roundy-er font,

Just spend ages trying to find a pic showing what I mean, but cant find one clear enough :(

My mate took the sticker off his new Volvo and when he brought it into get serviced they asked him why did he take the sticker off. He said did they give him a discount on the service for having it on the car? They said no and he said that's the reason.

the same when i got my old cars windows tinted. i arrived back to see their logo on the back window, i asked do i get a discount for the free advertising? he laughed and said no. i promptly asked him for it to be removed.

when I bought our Fiesta I asked the garage not to put their name up on it, and they didn't. I can't understand why people leave a dealer sticker up, first thing I do is remove them!

Thankfully there's no dealer's stickers on/in car, they'd be removed anyway.
