By space do you mean the volume of the attic space or the surface area of the roof or attic floor, also what type of roof do you have ie pitched, hipped, dormer etc

Are yoy looking for attic floor area, attic volume or even sloped road area?

Is it the area or the Volume

Area of Attic Length by Width= sq feet x by 10.764 will give you Sq Metres.

Volume of Attic Length by Width x Half the Height = Cubic Feet.

I think you just need the flat area for that too. After all, the same rain will fall on your house whether its got a flat roof of a steep pitched roof.

Depends on the shape of the roof.

The safest, simplest way is to just count you roof tiles or slates, With tiles the area is approx 1.2ft2 and with slates the surface area is slightly less at 0.8ft2 each......

The area you need is the footprint / plan area of your house, as stated above, the amount of rain falling on an area is unaffectecd by the shape of your roof.

So for examples sake...... that a house has a floor plan/area of 150 square meters.

Then thats the sq meter area/size of the roof aswell??

    Thanks.:)

It's explained here, under Sizing a catchment area. Roof design only matters if you only collect from one side/part of the roof. Don't forget to add the overhang if there is one.

    Good calculator here.

No (yes if property is single storey) as that will be for both your ground and first floors.

You just need to measure the area of the property on the floor under the roof.
