Was planning on doing this but if you click the link below (robbed from the weather forum) and then click the 'next' button down in the bottom left hand corner you will see the amount of rain forecast is nothing short of torrential.
IF a decision is to be made about the race going ahead at what stage would it be made.

out of interest what kind of pace would the A4 race be done at? What would be a decent time and what time would a likely winner do?

Green Sheds course - I've done it a few times with the vets and averaged 36-38kph over 3 laps (that's the middle of 3 vets races - probably not too far off A4 pace). The fast vets race probably averages around 40kph.

I just checked Met.ie below is copied from it

"Saturday will tend to be a brighter day with good sunny spells, but also showery, especially across the south of the country. "

    Sounds ok to me!

Would hope that it turns out that way but the guys over in weather are looking at serious amount of accumalated rainfall along the east coast.

I have some questions if anyone cares to educate me.
Can anyone turn up and race the a4?
Who is the mysteriously +unplaced woman?
How old do you have to be to be a vet ?

    a) Yes, you can get a one day licence.
    b) Of all the women that race, the first one across the line (who's not in the prizes) gets the unplaced woman prize
    c) 35 for women, 40 for men

Thanks Buffalo, unless I'm misunderstanding, she's the winner of all the women racing then, rather than unplaced?

    I could've started in vets 5 years ago - oh my :(

Placings here are from first to sixth place overall. If a woman comes home in any of those spots, she's not unplaced, so it would go to the next woman.

If no woman is in the placings, then naturally the unplaced woman would be the first woman over the line - or the winner of all the women racing, as you put it. :)

No - first A4 women across the line who is not in the first 6

We're talking IVCA here - separate licence required and separate race programme (Sundays and Tuesdays through the season - www.ivca.info for info)

Only A4 race though - no "unplaced lady" prize in the other 2 races

And advertised at the true entry fee of e10 as well.all in order here.If promoters of other races in Leinster this w/end get the hump over the [not happening] e15 entry fee this could be THE classic race this weekend.

Thinking of driving the 196km to Batterstown for this race. After getting wupped in Broadford, Ras Limnui went a bit better (no hills) so this route might be good experience for me. 196km though  Anyone interested in sharing a lift (and fuel costs) from the Limerick/Clare/Tipperary area or anywhere in between? I will drive.

Couple of drags, no hills, at one stage during the dunboyne gp (sameish course) last year we were hammering away at 60kph (with a bit of a tail wind).

edit - i checked back on my race info and it was actually 60 kph. Nice fast race

As flat as they come really, it can be a bit draggy on the new road over the motorway towards Dunshaughlin if you're off the front (or the back) going into a headwind. Going back in the Batterstown road can be rough into a headwind too because it's so straight and boring, but if you can sit in the bunch (or even take a few pulls at the front) you'll fly along it...

I think the worst part of that course is definitely when you turn onto the Trim (to Batterstown) Road and head back up past the Warrenstown Arms (even with the usual tailwind) - that's definitely the draggiest part of the circuit. The new road is in good condition and you tend to fly along it.

crash about 4k out in the a4, some idiot hammered into the side of me, (out of nowhere, he T boned me!, i honestly have no idea what he was thinking,) anyway, he smacked into my left hand shoulder (and im not a small lad) and totally wiped me out. I had no where i could go but down, sitting about 20 - 25 back in the bunch, lots of other guys came down too.

I know its racing, but it was shockingly bad. Got to meet slo_rida. Nice to meet you!!

Was very unexpected and came out of nowhere. I was just behind and to your left. Surprised even more people didn't go down. I missed rolling over your foot by a fraction and made it through upright. Just.

    Hope you are ok?

First race of the year and since Dunsany during the summer last year.
Felt great, strong and was closing gaps that opened up without much issue and made a mental decision to stay up as close to the front without actually going to the front UNTIL the last turn onto the main road when I knew it was going be tough up that little drag. Was just about hanging on when I saw the crash.
Went around them and saw Lenny firing his crash hat into the grass in disgust.
Hope you are ok .....and the bike?

Had a good natter with nice one Tom before and after. (Neoprene FTW Tom).
Happy enough considering it was the first race and I had worked out in the torrential rain all day yest.

And a BIG THANKS to Lucan and Stagg's for a great day and what looked like a massive spread afterwards. Managed to contain myself with 1 bikkie, 1 slice of cake and 1 sambo.

Big thanks to Lucan CRC for hosting it!

Had an average enough race myself, tried to stay active enough for the first two laps, none of my attempts were successful so I sat in for most of the third lap with the intention of giving it one last hurrah from about 5km out with whoever came with me. Watched that UCD rider spin off into the headwind 7km out, he seemed so feic'n strong, nobody looked like they wanted to catch him so I tried to follow, but dragged the whole bunch along with me! I felt fresh enough to at least try and contest the inevitable sprint for 2nd, but got completely boxed in on the left, and by the time I had moved out to the right it was far too late so I sat up and rolled over the line somewhere in the middle of the bunch.

Not looking forward to tomorrow :o

Newbie's race number 3. Uneventful enough for bullet points

    - Goals were not to repeat previous mistakes and to try and finish in the bunch.
    - Surprised at how I was able to keep up this time. Kept in and around the top 20 guys for the first two laps, though in fairness we were sometimes going at slower-than-training-spin pace.
    - Really had to push it on the hills, but still managed to stay around the top
    - Until the start of lap 3 that is. Felt a lot of people pass me and before I knew it I was on the back. Comfortable enough, but I'd swear there were twice as many at the start.
    - Halfway around lap 3 I started to find myself out of the saddle more trying to hang on, until the second last corner and I lost the group on the drag. Tried to hide in behind the ambulance, but the fumes were killing me.
    - Found Lenny, not happy on the side of the road. Stopped, started again.
    - Almost turned off at the roundabout but swore I'd finish every race I started so onwards.

    Highlights
    - The fantastic food at the end. Seriously amazing and I intend on writing a very compliementary email to them about it as every middle-aged man should, or whatever age I am.
    - General organisation
    - Though there were some examples of idiocy, it felt a little more consistent than before

    Lowlights
    - Getting that close to a tractor and Guiness lorry
    - The dog
    - Only achieving goal 1
    - Trying to memorise three other people to stay away from next race
    - Finding it was Lenny behind the flashing lights of the ambulance
