hi, just saw a car for sale on done deal that is described as immaculate but it is anything but,the car should be scrapped, I have viewed the car and wasted my day doing so, had to travel a long distance to view it, just would like to prevent other people from wasting their time.

Is there not a report add button when you open the add

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,069 ✭✭✭✭CiniO

If they were to remove add describing bangers as "mint condition" 95% of donedeal adds would have to be taken down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,532 ✭✭✭JohnBoy26

They won't remove an ad for something like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,624 ✭✭✭✭coylemj

I informed them that a car advertised on their website had finance outstanding, that this wasn't mentioned in the ad. and was not disclosed to me when I went to view the car - I only discovered it when I got suspicious because the vendor gave me evasive answers to other questions, I paid money to motorcheck and was informed that the car had outstanding finance.

    Donedeal didn't want to know.

You can't seriously expect them to act as censors over the descriptions people give to their cars?

If you couldn't tell from the photos that it was a heap of sh1te then how do you expect DD to police the descriptions people include in their ads?

might just post the add here?

Immaculate could be seen as a comparative term.
So an immaculate 2011 car with 15 k km would be quite different to an immaculate 1998 car with 150 k miles
How much and how old was the car in question ?

Very very frustrating op but as above DD won't do anything. They're only interested in ads that contravene the law and their own rules.

The word 'immaculate' actually means very little when it comes to cars.

The OP says the car was described as 'immaculate' but he says it should be scrapped. Now if the car was spotlessly clean inside and the bodywork was in excellent condition but the mechanics had a serious defect which was uneconomic to repair then both the advertiser and the OP are correct viz. the car is 'immaculate' but it needs to be scrapped.

So the two are not necessarily incompatible - 'immaculate' says nothing about the mechanical condition of a vehicle.

I went to see an 'Immaculate' car in Mullingar one time, pics looked great!
It had moss growing on it,
Every single panel was scratched or dented,
    All 4 wheels were flat,
It was blocked in by other cars (despite me ringing ahead the day before)
And yer man in the garage says to me "i'm not budging on the price" and it wasnt cheap to start off with!

I now say to people to give me an honest description of the car, Im not that fussy, once the price reflects the condition I really dont mind, and that Im not gonna be happy if I drive over there and its a shed.....

    Normally people get all truthful,

Unfortunately "lying/misrepresenting the truth" on DD ads isn't enough for them to take it down. It's up to you as buyer to decide whether it's worth it to travel to see it and then to decide to buy it.
Frustrating as hell sometimes, the amount of times I've driven to see a car just to find a heap of ****e...
Fortunately you'll get better at judging cars/owners as you view more cars/ads.

Sounds like a 2008 focus I went to look at 3 weeks ago. Rang the guy seemed fair I said that I would have to drive nearly 3 hours to see it and was the car genuinely in good condition he said it was mint. So me and dad showed up. The car was filty inside so bad I didn't even sit in it. Full of dents scratches used to be red was more like pink now it was so faded. The bonnet lock was completly broken. When we asked the seller could he open the bonnet he got a long screw driver and some how prized it open. Never seen so much oil on any engine in my life it was completly covered from head to toe. Turbo was fcuked and covered in oil. No spare tyre. So much grass in the back I though he must have been trying to draw silage with it at some stage. All lauqer was peeling of it I mean everywhere. Worst 2008 car I had ever seen in my life and this car in the seller words was mint and couldn't be faulted. Unfortunately good clean cars are few and far apart these days specially when you go back the years.

you have to wonder about the mentality of these people who say their cars are mint when they are pieces of $hit, do they think people will say well we drove 3 hours to get here so eventhough the car is a wreck ill buy it anyway:confused:

My experience is that vast majority of cars over 6 years old advertised for sale in Ireland is piece of crap.
It's very hard to find a good one, however it's not impossible.
But if you want a good one, you will need lots of patience, time and fuel to drive around the country.

We were fairly annoyed alright we said it was wrecked his response sure its 2008 where would you get it for the price. The price would have been reasonable if the van had been mint. It was that bad that if he said he would take 50 percent of the asking price I still think I would have walked away it was just too far gone regardless of the price. But I kept looking and after 8 focus found a well minded one and bought it. Op don't give up you may have to look at 10 cars before you find a nice genuine one but it will be worth it when you find one.

'Mint condition', 'immaculate', & 'will fly NCT' should raise hairs on the back of any car buyer's neck.

At least you got to see it! I drove 3 hours from Kerry to Galway to view a Focus. Stopped in Limerrick to withdraw cash n' all. Got to Tuam, rang for directions to sellers garage to be told he sold it 10 mins ago. I had told him 3 times where I was coming from and when in Limerick that morning told him I was on the way.

That's unreal he could have at least kept the car until you viewed it if he knew you were coming such a long way. What made it worst was we were afraid the same thing would happen to the focus I went to look at but I think it's still for sale and will be for a while yet. There is nothing worse though than having to drive home after seeing a wrecked car or in your case the car being sold. It ends up to be such a wasted journey and generally just puts you in a bad mood.

Ya I'm lucky I had my cousin driving or my foot could have been very heavy coming home! He had to neck to tell me then that I'll probably meet the car coming against me from his place! Thank god we never got the full directions or I'd have strangled him!:P I just keep telling myself it probably had a problem!

Everything happens for a reason I suppose although sometimes you wouldn't think it. I'm sure that car had some problem. :)

I'm looking to buy at the moment and I live near Tuam.
I'd be grateful for the name of the garage so that I can avoid dealing with them.

Indeed, I described the ZT as good :)
The lad who viewed it was well happy when he saw it.

I wont post his contact number directly here but these are some other ads he has online. Says private seller but obviously he is not.

yera he might be ok but he could have at least gave me the opportunity to view the car. who knows, he could have made more than the asking price if the two of us wanted to buy it.
