    Hi,

Am doing a road trip around CA and was wondering about a stop over between LA and Williams. Am thinking of stopping at joshua Tree NP. Where would you recommend for an overnight - preferably about half way to Grand Canyon?

The obvious choices would be Vegas or Phoenix.
Lake Havasu City is probably in the middle on the most direct route.

If you pick one of the smaller towns there won't be too much of a difference in the Southwest so just keep driving til you feel you want to stop.

I did Williams to LA in one day and it's a longgggggg drive!!! I'd recommend probably stopping in Vegas. There's a great Irish/Mexican bar and restaurant in Williams called Poncho McGillicuddys, well worth a visit as the food is great. Arizona will blow your mind, it's amazing!

Laughlin/Bullhead City - mini Vegas, great fun and the river is pretty. Go see the ghost town of Oatman nearby.

Drive up through 29 Palms and the old Rt 66 mojave desert trail through Amboy - amazing drive (never ever pass a gas station without filling up)

Kingman is OK but you must do the route 66 loop of Kingman up to Seligman (loops north of I40. Seligman is Route 66 heaven (say hi to Angel the Barber who started the Route 66 Preservation Society) Seligman is a fun and cheap place to stay.

Sedona is cool in a hippy dippy way.

Old brothel in Williams a great place to stay - only 4 rooms so book early.

Jerome is awesome former ghost town now full of life in former mineworkers houses and stores. Great blues bar.

Well done on selecting Northern Arizona, very cool part of the world. Flagstaff is great if your decide to get further on the road.

Phoenix. Meh - a dump of spawl, avoid.
