I really want to stop and all the above are expensive. I know willpower is most of the battle but what worked for you ?

I've never used stuff like that. I quit after several failed attempts with will power alone. I set an important date (my birthday which was coming up) and I quit on that day. It finally worked for me.

I don't see how patches, spray or gum helps anyone. The nicotine withdrawals last for what, two weeks? So you've gotta knuckle down for two weeks and get over the junkie nicotine addiction, then it's smooth sailing, physical addiction wise at least. If nicotine withdrawal is the problem then I'm sure patches, gum and spray all deliver a small amount of nicotine to take the edge off. Too much nicotine though and you might as well just stay addicted to it. It's a dodgy road, that's why I don't see the point really. Will power is the best thing.

Failing that if you can't / dont' really want to quit then e-cigs don't give you or the people around you cancer and are about a million times healthier. Plus I find that e-cigs are much easier to quit than regular fags as regular fags have loads more chemicals in them, ones that were introduced in the 80's which are a catalyst for nicotine, i.e. that made cigarettes even more addictive (and profitable).

Good luck I hope you get off them. Try reading that book everyone talks about too. Only found out about it after I quit.

Andym mate, I was of the smokes for 3 years an 3 months, I was told to give them up by my doctor after a check up in 2000 ,I was 31 years old then , After two days I started using the gum The effect/ Relieve was immediate, But I only swapped one addiction for another, If I ran out of gum it was like running out of fags,I could not do without it, I had a cigar on my wedding day in December 2003 an have been smoking since, The gum works for the craving but If you use it remember, it is addictive, well it was for me, As for the other options I can not offer an opinion as I did not try them, I would love to quit again but the memory of craving a smoke is still fresh in my mind, I wish you good luck and best wishes in your plan to quit mate
