Give people a chance to answer, although there are several other threads on this. Guarantee ya though, you wont get it there and then.

My son just received his licence on Friday. He handed it into the Cork Motor Tax office and waited five and a half weeks for it to arrive.

5 weeks between me applying in the tax office in Smithfield to me getting it in the post. They said the long delay was due to the backlog of people applying for the new style licenses. You can't get one there and then although you do get a recepit that you can show to the Gardai if needed.

A mate of mine passed his test back in October and he said that the RSA tester advised him to wait until 19th Jan this year to apply for his license because he could get a new style one then. If the RSA bods were telling everyone who passed their test since last year to wait then there'll be one hell of a back log.
