Right lads, any cures? Old wives tails, prayers, incantations, home-made lotions, ointments, creams - all suggestions welcome.

Have saddle 3 years now, with no previous issues btw.

Same here, just got them about 10 days ago.
From what I've read they are caused by minor abrasions which in get infected in a moist warm bacteria rich environment.
Prevention is best cure, not much good to you now!

Found an iodine ointment good, couple of times per day. Sudocream is also good.

TCP was banned owing to it's smell but if you live alone on a mountain cave it's an option!

I would say after three years depending on the use maybe its time for a new saddle. Normally that's one solution the other reason is maybe your a bit run down this can also lead to saddle sores. Before you start your spin apply some chamois cream to help prevent these problems.

Yea, I was wondering about the saddle age myself. Will look into that. Probably the guts of 30k in it now.

Not any more run down than normal with 3 smallies! Now that I think of it, though, I was doing a good bit of transatlantic travel when I got it initially, maybe that had something to do with it.

Been using chamois for a good while. Chamois butt'r afterwards does seem to ease it a bit too, but then others say to keep the area dry?

I use spot cream with benzoyl peroxide (Oxy10 or similar) when they first begin appear and a twice daily careful (as in very very careful) clean of the area with surgical spirit. This has been succesful for me but sometimes it can take a week or two.

Surgical spirits, they'll sting the bejaysus out of you but cleans everything and helps to toughen the skin.
