SPURS V LIVERPOOL - Anfield 10/3/13

Too early for a match thread? It is too early isn't it. We are all still a bit giddy after yesterday so there's no harm discussing the next big 'game of the season' now that yesterday is out of the way.

Also, this is a thinly veiled attempt to mention I'm going to this game. My Liverpool supporting wife, both 'us' tickets to this game for 'my' christmas present so i'll be sitting with the scousers for this one.

Have to say - 2 or 3 weeks ago I'd have thought this was straight forward enough - at least a point, maybe more seeing as they are a better team away from Anfield these days but how things have changed... scoring goals for fun, a few clean sheets. A potential banana skin?

We do play Inter Milan Thursday!..

More than a potential banana skin they have improved tremendously since the new year I think it will be a tight game Ledly always had the better of Suarez up to Verts now and they had no real clear cut chances against us at the lane we covered everything really well I expect us to score though so if we can keep a clean sheet we can get the win!

We do? I thought it wasnt till the following week.

I watched a bit of Inter yesterday. They are going to be much tougher than Lyon.

Thursday 8pm kickoff at WHL buddy :)

But yeh, this Liverpool side is gonna be very different to the one we played at WHL earlier in the season. Will be tougher than the Arsenal game in my opinion. Especially after the Inter match where Liverpool will be fresher.

Liverpool haven't beaten a decent team yet, racked up a big score against a Swansea second team and another big score against a very poor Wigan team.

You still must admit they're very unpredictable and it'll be an odd game. Can't tell what'll happen. I do find it a key match in our run in. We really need to show that we can keep our momentum going and get atleast a draw against them.

We've had the better of Liverpool for the four years or so,I think their style of play will suit us,keep Suarez quiet and we'll take them.

I'm usually an optimist but I fear this game could end our winning streak.

It will be very hard to raise ourselves for this after the high of Arsenal and then Inter on Thursday.

It's not just Suarez now, Coutinho and Sturridge (if fit) are flying it.

That said, their defence is still dodgy.

    I'd take a draw.

Definitely. Couldn't agree more. We all know every single game is going to be difficult. Liverpool might have beaten Wigan 4-0 but we lost to Wigan at home.

Away end tickets still available from the ticket office if you'd prefer to be able to cheer on the boys

Lennon Doubtful with a Hamstring injury, Dempsey and Thudd out, Ade back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,813 ✭✭✭golfball37

Worth noting that Liverpool played us off the park at the Lane in the return fixture. They'll be hungry to win this one.

    Very very tough game.

Much will depend on the supply that suarez gets because if he gets enough ball then he will score, simple as that.

If we contain their midfield then we have a good chance of scoring on the break

If lennon is out then play holtby on left and siggy on right.

But make no mistake this will be a tough one . i have a feeling we will come unstuck to be honest and would be delighted with a draw

If we win then we are in a fantastic position.

I'm optimistically banking on Suarez having a bad day at the office :D As the gooners don't play this weekend if we grab 3 points we will be 10 points clear of 'em!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,951 ✭✭✭SuprSi

The lads really put in a shift last night, running until the very end, which makes me nervous about Sunday. I reckon we'll be doing a lot of containing but we really need Lennon to be fit as his defensive abilities are hugely important.

I'd be absolutely chuffed if we can get anything from this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,317 ✭✭✭Dublin Spur

I'm not fearing this very much.
They are a good side, but we're better and in superb form.
Wouldn't settle for a draw either, 3 points please.

Carragher v Bale should be interesting :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,827 ✭✭✭Mr. Guappa

Arsenal, Inter Milan and Liverpool.. would be quite the trio of victories if we can pull it off!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,107 ✭✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

I know what you mean about the effect last nights game might have but I think when you are winning and playing the way we are at the moment that the players just want the games to come thick and fast.

We have a few options in the squad, so hopefully we can rotate abit.

Lloris to start, Dawson to come back in, maybe naughton too.

Livermore or Carroll to get a good 30mins at least, maybe start Holtby too. Defoe should be fine after a few weeks off. Bale is a machine and doesnt need resting.

This is a good point, if the next time they play a PL game they are 10 points behind us and out of the CL (probably) you could see them just rolling over for the rest of the season.

In Any event I would take a draw now

Livermore or carroll to get 30 mins against the pool ?? No way man.

They can get time when we are up 3-0 or away to Milan but no chance on Sunday

My prediction is 2-1 to us.
It'll be tight, but I think we have a better team than them and we should see it out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

I think we have a better team but Liverpool regard us as one of their main rivals now or at least their fans do so I'd expect them to be up for this one anything less than 100% and they will win I'd love a win 3-1 but I see 2-2 as most likely outcome.

It's weird being a Spurs fan and being confident our manager will have a plan.... Nice feeling to have!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,107 ✭✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

Totally agree. Don't have that feeling of anxiety before games any more. We usually start well and finish strong and we perform as good if not better away from home.

We might draw, or even lose tomorrow but it will be tight and we won't be embarrassed by anyone. I can't see us been out fought or out played tactically either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,951 ✭✭✭SuprSi

Yeah it's weird, maybe it's the fact I've been drinking since about 2pm, but I don't feel so nervous about the match tomorrow. I might feel completely different tomorrow but at the moment everything is just ooooo kkkkk :D

Hopefully Bale and Defoe score while Bale scores another cracking goal in a 2-0 Spurs win,,

Sure this assumes we can limit Suaraz & choutinio? having time on the ball

    COYS!

I'd take a point now and move on. COYS

Anyone know if Lennon is in or out? Checking everywhere and nothing. I'm fearing the worst if its a hammy injury. I'd be much more confident with him playing than not playing. Hope the little terrier makes it today.

Team Lloris Walker Daws Vert Benny Parker Livermore Dembele Siggy Bale Defoe

    No Lennon:( or Ade

Jeez I hate seeing Livermore in our side - he's not a Spurs player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,951 ✭✭✭SuprSi

Bugger, no Lennon is a big loss. I'm not sure what format this is going to be, maybe Livermore and Parker in front of the back 4, Dembele ahead and Siggy & Bale on the wings? Or will Defoe drop out wide a little to allow Bale through the middle? Let's hope that Defoe has the energy for a full match and doesn't get injured either!!

Gonna be tough work without Lennon, largely because his defensive work has been excellent lately. Big game for Jake, you can do it son! Defoe and Bale to wreak havoc, yiddos, yiddos!!

Livermore the cause of the goal. Christ he is shocking

Parker and Livermore is not working, Parker keeps getting caught and Livermore's passing is poor. Holtby or Carroll on please!
