Well a person would be a right tool if they got the car insured first just to get it NCT'd. Imagine that, there you go and pay a few ton to get it insured and bring it to the NCT later to only find out that it's a pile of garbage and needs to be buried deep in the ground. You just pay for a towing of the vehicle to the NCT place and back.

F.e. someone else who has "third party extension" can drive it (not the owner).

I'm fairly sure that a third party extension does not apply to uninsured vehicles.

Some don't, but most of them does.
I haven't yet been with insurer which would require a car to be insured by owner to make OK for me to drive it using third party extension.

I Wang my insurance company specifically to ask this and they said.
It's the driver covered to drive any car once it is taxed and tested and won't need to be insured by owner as you are insured this how ever excluded any commercial vehicles, jeeps, campers, people carriers etc...
Asked out of interest they will cover you on a super car 3pft

Are you sure they will cover third party fire and theft.
I think it's only third party while you are driving this car.
Once you park it somewhere it's not covered anymore by your policy that's why fire and theft can't work.

My policy also limits it, that vehicle can not belong to my employer.
Also it works only in Ireland, not abroad - this was changed recently as it worked abroad with my insurer up to recently.

I thought this too but my policy now covers me comp. on other cars even if they have no insurnance in place. The car has to be taxed and road worthy so that would indeed be a snag in driving it for an NCT test (assuming its out of test) as surely one would need valid nct to be considered roadworthy by insurers.

I am with RSA and I have fully comp on driving other cars. Must not be bigger than 2.5l though.

Fairly sure? It depends on the policy but it can be done. And I'm 100% sure.

Does the value of the car your are driving matter or is it unlimited?
F.e. if your comprehenvise policy is on a car worth f.e. 5k, would it cover comprehenve driving other car worth f.e. 50k ?

I am sure there is a limit. I was not told. I specifically asked what the limits were and was told the only limit was engine size. Its not something I use ever, but if I was to drive something pricey on it I would seek clarification first. It was mentioned to me as part of the policy I was already buying, it wasnt one of the reasons I was choosing the cover.
