Not sure if this is the right thread.

But i'm starting a new job soon and will be cycling there. I don't drive and have avoided cycling on the road.

I'm going through the rules of the road now, but was wondering when you want to turn right at a junction what do you do?

One if there is traffic there and they are both waiting at the traffic lights, do i move in between the cars that want to go left and right and then take up the front position?

The second one if the light is green do i move into the right lane and stay behind the car or move ahead to the left of it.

    Sorry If i sound like a retard that's cos I am :D

Any help would be great i don't wanna be one of those annoyhing eejits on the road

Stick your right arm out to indicate your intentions. If there is a right turning lane, move into it when it is safe to do so. If there is none, then move over to the right of the same lane. Wait for oncoming traffic to clear, and then take the turn. I hope I haven't forgotten anything...if it's your first time commuting by bike, I think its a good idea to watch youtube helmet cam channels of really good riders like cycle gaz or cycling mikey.

If there's a dedicated right-turn lane I'd take my place in the queue as if I were a car. If there's no right turn lane then I'd filter up the left of the cars queueing to go right as you describe.
The second one if the light is green do i move into the right lane and stay behind the car or move ahead to the left of it.
If traffic is moving then I would take the lane, whether in front of or behind the car.

The third option for right turns is a box turn -- stay on the left-hand-side, stop at the far side of the junction and from then on behave as if you were coming from the left. Very handy if you would have to cross multiple lanes of traffic to get into the right turn lane...

Oh, you can filter to the front if you want, if it is safe to do so. Be sure that traffic isn't going to start moving again soon. If you don't feel safe doing it, take it easy and wait in the line of cars if you wish.
