Graphics card installation

I was given a graphics card a few weeks ago (ATI radeon 4870 HD). I had to get some stuff together to make it run (a new power supply and a few adaptors) so I went about fitting it today. I had already fitted the new power supply and that was working perfectly.

With the card fitted, the pc powers up but I have nothing on the monitor. I'm using a vga-dvi adaptor but that should work I think. If I plug the vga cable back into it's usual vga port I still get nothing. If I shut down, remove the new card and just use the vga cable/port it's fine.

Any ideas where I am going wrong? I had already downloaded and installed the drivers for the card, but for some reason I still get no picture.

Have you connected the card to the psu ?

Think that card needs 500w psu.

I have yeah. It needs 2 6 pin connectors. I got an adaptor during the week so have both of those connected. It powers up, fan is running but just nothing on the screen. I have a 700w PSU so that shouldn't be an issue.

I am fairly convinced that the pc isn't booting properly with card installed so I don't think it's actually an output issue, just that with it installed the pc isn't booting up at all. The fans come on, but that's as far as it gets...

Mobo onboard graphics? You may need to disable in the bios.
