I'd imagine once you're not doing it for reward then you're grand.

As long as your not getting paid for it, or if its part of employment.

Well you're covered for carrying passengers and for "social, domestic and pleasure purposes" normally so as Colm said, as long as you're not charging them, you should be fine.

Apparently the Irish Insurance Federation think charging to cover travel expenses is ok so long as you don't gain a profit from the charge.
However the IIF's opinion is not binding on insurers so, as always, you should confirm with your insurer that your specific policy permits this.

"The standard wording noted under policy conditions may vary, but the following maybe in line with the industry.

If you are paid money as part of a carsharing arrangement for SDPU to carry passengers on a journey in the insured vehicle it is not considered as carrying passangers for hire and reward, or using the insured vehicle for hiring, provided the following is noted:

the vehicle is not built or adapted to carry more than 8 passengers (not including the driver)
the passengers are not being carried as part of a business of carrying passengers
you do not make a profit from the total money you receive for the journey
agreement is made prior to the journey commencing"
