So I've just got the bare-bones model. I added RAM and a SSD but when I plug in into either mt monitor or TV with either VGA or HDMI I don't get an output.

I imagine that I should see a bios screen correct ?

you should get a prompt for boot media. if not you may have a faulty model. i had to send one back for the same reason.

    Hit del to get bios.

Tried DEL but nothing. The lights on the keyboard light up and stay lit. No output to RGB/VGA.

    Doesn't look good.

Should I be hearing any bios 'beeps' ?

sounds like its not even getting into the bios. i had the same problem.

If its any concilation, the return was harmless, they sent out the new unit promptly and refunded the return posting costs.

    I feel your pain.

you could try making a boot usb key for openelec just to see what happens.

I had in in the machine the first time I turned it on :)

What's a shame is that I've had it a week now but not had the time to play with it. I began Thursday only to discover that I had bought DIMM rather than SODIMM. God is trying to tell me that he enjoys all the cables travelling around my living room and would like to leave them that way :)

FYI.....You need to use a wired USB keyboard plugged into one of the back ports to get into the bios.
