Go for something nice and light without a heavy barrel. As ive often said my only regret with my hmr is the heavy barrel. Its pointless on a rimfire for hunting imo because the barrel doesnt heat up and its only adding weight.

4-16 is good mag to go for on the hmr. . mine normally sits on 10 for most of the year and turn it up a bit for longer shots in the summer. Have a look at the bushnell banner 4-16x50.

Each station is different.. how long did the .22 take to arrive?

Heavy barrels are more steady and are better balanced, when shooting off a tripod on a slightly windy day you will see the difference.
If you have the money to spare now buy the best you can because you will probably upgrade to that in the end and money might be tighter at that time.

Im speaking from expierence on this.

CZ all the way IMO. BUT don't get the Lux or Standard models as they are for use with the Iron sights and you will find you need higher mounts and packing on the stock to keep your head up.

The American is a nice model. SAK mod to complete the outfit.
Any of the Bushnell Banner scopes will do that setup great, 4-12x40 etc.

Ring around the dealers to get a second hand one as there should be plenty of them about at good money.

You shouldn't have any hassle in getting a .17. They are a cracking little rifle, I have a Marlin 917vs myself and I adore it! My friend used to have the same model, but with a different stock and his was moderated also. Personally, unless you get one that is already threaded for a moderator ( as his was ) I wouldn't go to the hassle or the expense of doing it, as it really isn't needed due to the fact that it isn't a gun that makes much noise when fired. If I was you, with that budget, I would buy a good second hand .17 and spend the rest on the scope. There is a lot to be said for a bipod under your rifle aswell! Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Like the lads said earlier some of the bushnell or hawke will do grand. Or you might be lucky enough to pick up a second hand Leopold or something. Ring a few dealers and see what they have
