OK sorry for all the newb questions but I think this will be the last.

Im looking at a 07 corolla tera. Very good service history. 2 previous owners. Both granny owners :D Car seems to be immaculate.

Before I go wasting a mechanics time (and more money paying for all these checks :P ) I just thought Id ask here first.

    1) Any known issues with this model
    2) What kinda mileage can I expect (probably 50/50 town/motorway)
    3) I dont plan on selling it any time soon, if I do my part, so should it still be in good order in say 5-6 years from now.
    4) Any thoughts/opinions on this car..??

    Current or old shape?

I always found economy pretty poor on them. Got better mpg on the 1.6 avensis which incidentally is a superior car in every respect and they go for the same money

Emmm... Im not sure what shape it was

Can I ask what kind of MPG you got on your corrolla? The saleswoman advised that I could get about 45ish with my driving... and as long as I stay under 100 on motorways it should be decent. Would you think this is true?

Also had you any issues with yours? Any known issues? Im looking through old posts and there seems to be mixed reviews.

My wife gets bang on 40mpg from hers and that's all short journeys of less than 10km. I've checked it on long runs and it'll do up to 48 easily. They're a very reliable engine in general. One problem i came across when I was buying my wife's was the inlet manifold on earlier models gave bother. It's plastic and I think some of the gaskets used to break down and you'd hear a sort of grating noise from the engine when free revving it. I think it was a warranty recall but not all cars had the part replaced as I came across three if them when looking for a car.

My wife's car is 05 and she's had it 5 years now and done over 50k miles in it and had zero problems. Servicing and the usual brake pads/discs are the only costs to running it.

My sister in law has a 1.6 verso (07). Her car does roughly the same 40mpg and again it used only for short runs to the shops/school runs.

05 is a much lighter car. I could never average 40mpg when I had them. Driving at 100kmph on the motorway just so it doesn't eat petrol is a good indicator as to how heavy they are at speed.

As a contrast I'm getting 45mpg average on my 1.8 civic

If going for a Corolla go for the older 02-07 model. They are a nicer car to the current model and are slightly more reliable too.

Also go for the hatchback model. They are a nicer car than the saloon and are better built too.

The Terra is the basic model, you will loose the will to live having to endure that interior every day.

I know as I owned a few of them but at least the higher spec models are a bit more tolerable and have a few more toys. Should be very little price different between a Terra and Luna at this stage of their lives.

The 07 on model also has very cheap and nasty plastics in the interior regardless of spec imo. At least the older model's interior had a quality feel about it even if it was just as bland.
