Hey guys,

Just looking at buying a 550w psu, just wondering what ye would think would be the best one for the price (including delivery). Trying to get a decent one at the cheapest possible price.

Currently I'll probably get OCZ Technology ZS Series 550W 80+ which is €64.55 w/ delivery.

If there is one that's even better or just as good for cheaper, let me know. All help is appreciated, thanks!

Just looking on dabs the http://www.dabs.ie/products/xfx-550w-core-edition-80--bronze-psu-8K0S.html?refs=55420000&src=3"]XFX 550W is cheaper and a very solid Seasonic built unit, only ordered on request though, so no good to you if you are in a hurry.

If you look at the reviews on jonnguru the XFX has quite a bit more rated power on the 12v rails (38A vs 44A). Frankly for a unit labeled as a 550W I'd expect a little more than the maximum 456W 12V power the OCZ can supply. But is still a decent PSU, the XFX is not perfect either but is the better and slightly cheaper option IMO.

It won't be needed for a couple of weeks.

I was just looking at this, Cooler Master GX550 550W which I can get for €67 or so w/ delivery from Amazon.

What do you think, better then both the PSU's stated above?

Btw, what I'm looking to power is:

i5 3570k
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
AsRock Z77 Extreme4 mobo
Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz 8gb ram
500gb Seagate Barracuda
LiteOn DH-20A3P dvdrw drive
(Still to choose but: ) XFX 7870 DD 2gb
& a couple of 120mm case fans
Also SSD in future & another larger HDD

If there's a PC World near you, they have 550w good quality Antec PSU's for about the 60 mark.

Maplins also sell XFX PSU's and bizarrely, they're well priced, more or less the same as online - unheard of for Maplins usually. The 550w is somewhere about 60. They had a few models in Galway but sold out and didn't get them back in, but worth a look in your local.

The Cooler Master is decent enough but I wouldn't take it over any of the ones mentioned so far.

Yeah there is a PC World near me. Is it a case of them having it in store and not online?

As after checking their website and this is the only one they have:
Antec Basiq 550w - €79.98

In Store. It's definitely not 79.99, at least, not in my local PC World. It's 59.99, in the clearance section. Their website tends to be fairly outdated for PC Hardware prices. It's a pretty basic no frills but excellent PSU.

They also stock Corsair PSUS, prices are OK on them as well for a walk-in store, and a few other junk brands which aren't worth mentioning.

After some researching, I decided to go with this one:

OCZ Modular 600w PSU - €71 w/ delivery

The modular design appealed to me & it seems to be an all round popular and reliable PSU that should do me for the foreseeable future.

That's a pretty old PSU. I'm surprised that they still sell them. There's better ones around than that. I'd go for the ZS over that one or the XFX.
