Just wondering does anyone know what kind of salary 'A' Licenced and 'B1' Licenced aircraft engineers are on at FlyDubai. Assume they're based in Dubai also. I'm aware that the salary is tax free but was just wondering if anyone could give me some more info on the matter.

    Thanks guys!

    About €70k tax free for a B1

Thanks for that. Have an interview with them next week for a job out there. As I'm currently a Cat A, and about 6 to 7 months away from my B1 licence (pending experience) ill be on a Cat A salary. I have to assume this will be in the region of €40k if the B1s are on around €70k. Here's hoping I get the job! Thanks again.

In this part of the world that will pay your kids school fees, so what are you going to live on?

I would suggest that you focus on the "package" rather than the salary.

I dont have any kids or a girlfriend/wife or mortgages to worry about smurfjed, so as far as im concerned, being 26 and getting an opportunity to work abroad in a place like Dubai is a chance of a lifetime and could be too good to turn down. of course i'll take into account all aspects of the position (salary, benefits, career progression etc) and make the best choice i feel is right for me. that's all of course depending on whether i get a job offer or not! but i was just curious to know what kind of salary flydubai pay their engineers, because when you hear 'Dubai', you think the pay will be decent straight away because it's tax free and also because the airline is owned by a very wealthy government of a very wealthy country. but flydubai is a low cost carrier and may pay their staff a lot less than other airlines (like a certain other 'low fares' airline in ireland!!). was purely looking for some ballpark figures to give me an idea.

Unfortunately thats not true, I have a number of friends who left Dubai/EK as they couldn't absorb the 5-10% increase in cost of living year after year, they also felt that they were unable to save anything.

    Good luck with the interview.

just a quick update guys, Ive been called for an assessment and formal interview down in Dubai in a few weeks! all expenses paid too which is great. even have a few days to look around dubai and get a feel for the place. with regards salary, its quite a good offer, especially as its a Cat A position. lets just say its a good bit over the figure i mentioned above! cant wait to get out there now!

Not true. Contrary to what most people think Dubai has very very little oil and even had to be bailed out by its neighbours during the financial crisis

Well done, fairly decent of them to fly you out

Just wondering how this went? Did you do the interview and if so, what are your impressions of Dubai?

No I haven't gone out yet. I'm flying to Dubai this Monday (25th) and then the assessment and interview are on the Tuesday. As soon as I have time afterwards I will post how it went and what Dubai is like here!

Best of luck to you, make sure that you visit the Irish Village, you should be able to find staff/people who can tell you what life without the sunglasses is like.

If that doesn't work OP, Emirates were looking for engineers/technicians today, saw it coming up on LinkedIn.

    Hope that link works.

Dubai is alright, it can be expensive but it can be very cheap also. Just accept as much assistance as you can get for renting a place. A lot of places will specify paying 12 months rent up front. You can get a loan for this from any Dubai bank but do you really want a loan a week after landing in a place.

If you can handle the heat you'll stay for a while.

I'd recommend avoiding the Irish Village at all costs. Surly, grumpy, unfriendly staff, overpriced drinks and mediocre food.
Plenty of better places around if you want to meet some of the Irish expat community. Try Fibber Magees behind the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road or McGettigans in JLT.
