    Hi Folks,

I had to come on and tell you about this job bridge experience I had. Company I worked for were great couldnt have asked for a nicer boss and colleagues. My background, I served my time as a tradesman went industry went bust and went back and got my degree. Served nearly 6 months job bridge and was offered a position with another company (there was no positon going with J Bridge company) in which i will not be paid for 1st month aka months trial but once sucessful will be a full time position. I believe them has they are a large company. Finished up with J Bridge company last friday and didnt contact social welfare yet as they owe me a weeks job bridge from beginning and also the fact its not a paying position yet I am not signing off. Obviously my J Bridge company told them I finshed up last friday. I went to check my account this morning not only did i not find that I did not receive the week in hand I was owed aka extra 50 euros my social welfare has also been stopped. I did not receive a letter a phone call an email nothing. Now lets get one thing straight i worked the last 6 months for basically something I could have got sitting at home but i needed the experience. I know people coming out with nearly 400 euro a week from the welfare through rent allowance single parent etc and they have not worked a day in their lifes the last 10 years. Heres me who went back got my education worked for free the last 6 months and I didnt even got a f**king email (excuse my french). Has anyone out there have this happened to them. I genuinely cant believe this treatment like

So you left your job bridge job for a paying job and you're complaining that you're not getting social welfare?

So do you want social welfare and a paid job?

No its not a paying job yet it's a trial basis, and the minute I'm successful I'll sign off, I'm not starting job(trial) for two weeks and it's up the country have to organise accommodation transport etc and had to leave so other company could organise a new job bridge person . what is getting to me is I didn't get an email or anything to say that you will no longer receive anything or whatever they do

Fair play to you mate. You seem to be doing everything you can to get back to work.

The problem is that you should not be doing a trial unpaid. Will the company not pay you for your trial? Sounds dodgy.

Tell the SW that you are not employed and are hoping to start in the other job in a months time. As usual they are very efficient in closing a claim and less so in establishing one so it will take longer then 4 weeks to get any money.

Go and see the community welfare officer but don't tell them that you are working for free. They will tell you that is your choice and that you are not entitled to job seekers when you are not available for work (because you are working for nothing)

My thoughts exactly how quickly they can close a claim but takes 4 weeks to open one. Like I said its not the money is the problem it's the common decency to contact someone that who is actually busting their chops to get work that they are getting cut off

if it's anything like what happened to me, you should get a letter in the post with a cheque for your last week of Social Welfare, and you'll prob get it somewhere between 3 to 6 weeks.

In order to qualify for social welfare, you must be available to take up a full time job. Unfortunately, even though your trial-run job is unpaid, you do not satisfy this key provision anymore and therefore you are not entitled to social welfare payments.

As far as the JobBridge scheme goes, you MUST inform social welfare that you finished that scheme, whether you had a week's welfare owed to you or not. You of course would get any money you are owed when you finish up. Not informing them of your new job is a bad move, as it looks like you're trying to grab an extra few quid on the dole while being in full employment elsewhere.

Trust me, the department will accommodate you as much as they can if you're straight with them. But if you don't inform them of changes to your circumstances, they'll come down on you like a ton of bricks. Honesty is the best policy.

I know you are not getting paid for the trial run, but ultimately that's your own decision. Unless the new role is under a verified scheme, you won't be eligible for welfare while working full-time. To be honest, I would be VERY wary of a company that doesn't pay you for a month and frames it as a 'trial run' period. It is highly possible that they may be trying to squeeze a month's free work out of you with no obligation to pay at all. Be very careful.

and when you do start getting paid, look into the job assist scheme from revenue. Many people are not aware of this, but it is a great help for both the employer as they get increased deductions and employee as you can retain some of your benefits and get additional tax allowances.

glad its all working out for you.

In fairness, your thread title is a little misleading, as it is not really anything to do with job bridge, just a mix up with where to collect your remaining SW payment.

In order to qualify for social welfare, you must be available to take up a full time job. ...........

If that's the case why do travellers have an entitlement to welfare? (most of them live in houses provided by my taxes and are therefore are not, by definition 'Travellers')

As far as Jobridge, in my opinion it is a joke. The majority of reports I have read about people on the scheme do not get offered a job with the company they have the internship with.

Not only that but companies are using it in order to get cheap labour... Here is an example of exploitation by way of jobridge:

To the op, did you get your outstanding payment and further payments?
