    Hi,

Looking at getting Sky - I see that you will need an 'active telephone line' to connect to the Sky box.

We have our 'phone and broadband with UPC (the phoneline comes out of the UPC router).

Probably a silly question, but wondering if the UPC phone line will be OK to connect to the Sky box :o

    Thanks

I have UPC Broadband with a Phone line, and I have Sky Multiroom with both boxes connected perfectly with no issues

If you only have one box, then even if you cannot/do not have a phone line they will still set you up. Without a phone line, you cannot buy movies etc, you need to ring them instead. They also charge an extra once off fee if you don't have a phone line (about 50 Euro)

Their is no issue with UPC landlines at all, the connection must come front "phone 1" or else the callback will fail, this is used to activate your viewing card. Their is a manual enablement charge if you do not have a landline which is €37.50. Hope this helps!

Another confirmation here. Just keep the phone line distances (between your UPC modem and each Sky box) as short as possible, and use decent cable. Make sure all boxes as on the same telephone port on the UPC modem. If you're having issues, try temporarily moving the boxes to beside the modem with short phone cable lengths (and worry about their permanent connectivity some other time).

That €38 fee (or whatever it is now), is for a non-standard installation of a standard subscription, only. It does not apply to Multiroom subscriptions. You're contractually obliged to have all Multioom boxes connected to the (same) phoneline at all times, but there are varying accounts of how aggressively Sky follow that up. Most, if contacted by Sky at all, are given the chance to rectify it before being charged the full whack subscription on each box.

I had to do a manual callback on each box (physically moving the Sky box to beside the UPC modem) for a few months while I sorted out internal wiring. I did it once a month, and never got any warning from Sky.

If sky do a call back and get nothing they will try again if this fails you will be issued a warning fails again a more serious warning a third time letter and charges immediate... You can use wireless phoneline extensions but there can be issues with ordering box office and sky active

In Limerick callbacks using UPC lines fail every single time.

I've connected a sky+ hd box to my upc modem to try to order from sky store without success. Is it just a simple matter of running a phone line from the sky box to the modem's Tel 1 port? Do I have to make any changes to the settings on the sky box or anything else. Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I saw your post before about it not working in Limerick. I'm in Athlone, maybe we're in the same boat as you.

If you have fibre with UPC it should work is the sky box plugged into port 1 on the UPC modem if not it won't work

Splitters can also mess it up I've had problems with a splitter involved

I plugged it into port 1 as you say but it didn't work. I didn't use a splitter but I am having to use an rj11 coupler to lengthen the phone cable because of the distance between sky box and modem. Does anyone think that might be the problem?

At least I now know thanks to you guys that I don't need to fiddle with settings etc.
