Dogs barking in Balbriggan

This is an issue in my area where I live.

The dog is so extremely loud that he/she actually disturbs me, the other backyard dogs (who are quiet) and I'm sure my neighbours, but no one has done anything.

Is it worth my while to report this to the owners? I did get papers from the fingal country council about the noise pollution.. I have videos of the dogs crying, weeping and barking.

What are your takes on such a thing? Is it an issue in your area too?

I just want to know some opinions on the topic... People leaving their dogs outside in the back garden day and night and ignoring their pets....

    Bums me out really.

If you don't want to approach your neighbours directly, put a note in their letterbox saying how much you are being disturbed.

If you have a residents association, then approach them for advice - maybe raise the issue at a meeting....

Speak with other neighbours to see if they have issues with the same dog.

If the dog owner is in rented property, then you can complain through the private residents tennancy board (PRTB).

If its a privately owned home then you need to bring a civil complaint to the local district court - if the situation warrants this. To to this you will need to have made extensive notes in relation to date, time, etc of incidents of disturbance relating the the dog.

Of course, if you have suspicions in relation to animal cruelty, you should not hesitate to contact the ISPCA, the Fingal Dog Warden (in Fingal Co Co), or the Gardaí.

Dog barking is a divisive issue, but dog owners have a social responsiblity not to interfer with their neighbours quality of life, and have a responsiblity to their pets to ensure that they are socialised properly.

Hope some of this helps. Maybe speak with your vet seeking advice.

    have the same problem

    nothing happened
ive tried getting a few neighbours opinions on it and they agree about it so im trying to get them to report it aswell
but i dont think much can be done about it unless the dog is been mistreated

I have the same problem with the neighbours dog, barking violently in the back garden.
Apparently there is little that can be done.

It seems like the neighbours put the dog out while their at work, so they aren't home to mind it. I work nights and evenings, so this is VERY disturbing. Anyway, I rang up fingal coco requesting a form in which I have to fill out and leave for the owners. If nothing is done, I read that I can make a complaint to the district court.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who is disturbed by this dog, his bark and cry is horrible/cringe worthy, and the area I live in is very close together.

@kjbsrah1 thanks for your advice, you're very knowledgeable!

Cringe worthy? The poor dog :(
While I understand your frustrating with the dog barking and crying, I agree it's not fair on surrounding neighbors but it's not the dogs fault.

If the dog is constantly barking/crying chances are high that the dog is either hungry, cold, not well, needs attention etc.
Dogs require a lot of attention and most defiantly shouldn't be put out in the cold for hours while the owner goes to work.
This selfish behavior sickens me , like why get a dog in the first place to leave outside barking and crying all day
anyways please take a few Min's out and report them them to the ISPCA for the sake of the dogs life. and I'm sure they this will sort your problem also.

who knows, and yes, I'm aware it's not the dogs fault, it's the responsibilities of the owners. Hence the reason why I'm going to deal with the owners of the dog, not the dog itself.

Well good look with that and to be fair I can ensure the ISPCA will look into quicker then fingal country council:rolleyes:

fingal country council get numerous complaints like yours every day and they generally don't give a sh*t. "yeah fill out this form and etc etc"
Your case is just as "important" to them as the next.

Well I'm going to do the complaint letter, and if things continue to progressively get worse for the dog, I will ring the ISPCA. I just looked up their email and I have it now. There are actually a few dogs around me who could use a bit of love, locked up in backyards day and night in the cold.. Only to have the birds steal their foods and their dog houses tipped over by the wind. But those ones are the quiet ones..... oddly enough.

Rather than going down the county council/officialdom route
Have you knocked on the door of the owners and told them
If theyre at work when the dog is barking they cant be aware he barks
ISPCA have no power of entry to anyones property so they can only call and look over the wall
Once a dog has a bowl of water and shelter they can do nothing about it
