Just a venting thread! Not looking for advice but shared experiences are welcome!

I was out of work and looking for a change so I returned to education for a year (IT conversion, my background was accounting). Took it so seriously too and got top grades.

I applied for half a dozen jobs and got a good initial response but unfortunately a family bereavement ground my jobhunting efforts to a halt and I had to cancel an interview which wasn't rescheduled. Then a second company cancelled/postponed my interview due to external circumstances -I'm sure you saw it on the news.

So all my leads boiled down to one company. Had a good first interview but the second was a lot shakier, spoke too fast and looking back I answered some questions terribly.

That was Monday morning.. And now I await their response... I find myself looking at my phone and pleading with it to ring, and sort of dreading it at the same time.

Basically, if this doesn't work out I'm back to square one, not to mention this job is close to home whereas other jobs will require a commute or relocation.

If I'm ever recruiting I'll give my decision immediately after the interview!

Sadly this is the common theme with jobs. If the company you are interviewing with is large then the HR manager might have to report to several other departments, report to management who might make the ultimate decision, get background checks, vet all the interviewees and go through all the company procedures and policies.

I nearly gave up on a interview procedure for a job in which I had only college experience and no commercial experience (IT) in - Went through three interviews, online assessments, technical tests and a 10 minute presentation, and each stage took a week or so in between. I was patient, kept in there and I eventually got the job. Worth it all now :)

Moral of the story: Be patient, be understanding, attend all the interviews with the same pleasant demeanor, keep applying for jobs (and completing your own related home projects as a portfolio to demonstrate your ability and interest in the position) whilst doing all that. Something will come up.

What sector in IT? Also, what is your age range (20-30, 30-40, etc)?
