Radio and battery

So I have a radio in an 98 golf, cd player. Issue is if I go over certain volume or try CD it starts tripping. If I drive a long time it may work ( not CD though). Obviously CD takes more power to run, and longer driving charges battery bit more so I can turn it up a bit. But what is the main problem, the battery or the radio? or might it be connection from one to the other. Im not buying new battery btw

Tripping? You mean it switches off?
The battery in a car is used to start the car, not to run the radio. Once car is running all electrics are powered by the alternator (through the battery).
If you use radio while car is off the battery is used.

Try using a friend's battery and see if that works better.

Cd in 98 Golf , probably not the original install. What brand of player is in your car. Taking a guess it might be a Blaupunkt.

my guess is that its a sony explod and that the unit itself is at fault.
