Using PayPal to pay on Adverts.ie (Am I covered?)

    Hi,

I want to buy a phone from a seller on Adverts.ie. Everything looks legit enough but I had a really bad experience before on Donedeal.

The seller accepts PayPal. If the phone never arrives or is damaged or anything like that am I covered with PayPal?

Also, I sell on eBay and sometimes buyers seem to be able to place 'holds' on payments they make to me. Am I able to do something like this in this instance?

    Thanks.

My advice is NOT to purchase second hand phones EVER. Unless you have the option of testing it first. Even then it's iffy.

It could work out that this phone is blacklisted on one or more networks for any one of many reasons. Boards is littered with stories like this. You have the option of not being one of the statistics.

I got stung on this years ago too. The seller was not trying to pull a fast one but was just clueless. I used PayPal but had no come back ultimately.

I know. This is kind of a case of 'fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me'. Would ye guys take a look at the ad and see what ye think?

I have been sending him a few emails and the phone was a replacement sent by apple for his previous faulty phone but while he was waiting for the replacement to be sent out he got a work fone. Its listed as 'Brand new'...heres the link:

I also was just wondering if I wasn't happy is there a paypal option to open a dispute like there is for ebay transactions?

And was the faulty one locked to a network? Apple will send like for like. I note in his ad, he says that the phone is not unlocked as it was given direct by Apple. However, he also never turned it on.

Shop around. You can get a new one on Amazon for £420. I know it's a little bit more, but you get full consumer piece of mind AND RIGHTS.

Just be wary. I feel that you have already made up your mind.

Just to add, and I'l not saying the seller is in this sphere, but there an awful lot of stolen handsets in circulation at the moment. It really is a thriving "business" and shouldn't be supported.

Thanks for the advice. I kind of was looking for someone to talk me out of it to be honest. Better to pay a bit more and buy it with full piece of mind. Thanks again.

Sound advice above ........Many 2nd hand phones are dodgy .

There are also dodgy buyers as well as dodgy sellers .

We have a genuine cheap mobile on sale on adverts , and a buyer asks if we will exchange for a Dual Sim iPhone 5. - Don't know who he is trying to fool .

    its here : http://www.adverts.ie/mobile-phones/nokia-x3-02-touchscreen-mobile-phone-meteor-network/2691868

We bought a 2nd hand iPhone in a well known 2nd hand outlet , for €120 - 6 months ago , and it never worked properly .

We sold it back to them last month for €60 . - Had to suffer the loss of the rest
