Job Seekers Allowance

My brother graduated from college in June and has been trying without success to secure employment.
He still lives at home with my dad (who works full time) my mam (who has never worked out of the home) and myself and my 2 brothers (1 of whom is under 18 and in school, myself and my other brother work full time) He has never had a part-time job so does not have any stamps built up.
Would he be entitled to Job Seekers Benefit (if he can prove he has applied for jobs but just been unsuccessful) or any other Social Welfare payment? Would they factor in mine and my siblings income in his means test?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks

You brother could apply for Jobseekers Allowance. If he is under 25 and living at home your fathers income will be taken into account, if he is over 25 it will not. Your brother and your income would not be taken into account.
    Max rate under 21 is €100, 22 to 24 is €144 or over 25 is €188.

He was under the impression (from what they told him in the Social Welfare Office) that my income and my siblings income would also be included in the means test as the means test is done on the total household income. Will get him to go to a different assessor next time! Thanks

It would be one of the questions on a form called a UP1b, but you are not required to maintain your brother so only parents incomes are taken into account. Your parents mortgage/rent payments will be taken into account to reduce any means that might apply.
