Ryanair hand-luggage query

    Folks,
I've been lucky enough to have never flown Ryanair before, but this weekend I break my Ryanair virginity.

Can anyone tell me, as part of hand-luggage, can you also bring another small bag, in this case a small Lowe Alipne schoolbag?

This would mean I have my normal hand-luggage (which will be under the 10kg allowance and is a soft bag so will definitely fit) and a small school-bag on my back.

Any other airline i've flown with before it's been allowed, but don't want to risk it with Ryanair if there's even the slightest possibility it's not allowed

    Many thanks

-Edit- Read the T&C's, looks like no schoolbag allowed, strictly 1 item!

No with Ryanair you may only bring one bag on board, total. The smaller one will need to go inside the bigger one when boarding. They do enforce this so make sure you have space for it so you are not scrabbling with your bags at the gate :)

It won't be allowed. T&Cs are pretty clear on that.

    http://www.ryanair.com/en/terms-and-conditions#regulations-cabinbaggage
Strictly one item of cabin baggage per passenger (excluding infants) weighing up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm is permitted. (handbag, briefcase, laptop, shop purchases, camera etc.) must be carried in your 1 permitted piece of cabin baggage.

    1 bag only, i'm afraid.
I got caught before after buying duty free. Had to ram everything into my carry on.
Also, a ladies handbag is counted as a bag too, so that would have to be put into the main carry on

You may get someone telling you that they have done this before and were fine, (I have a few times). However the Ryanair standpoint on it is that your smaller bag must fit into the larger bag and they might insist that you put it in before you board the plane. I have seen them asking women to do this with their handbags.

Just put you Ryanir tickets into a bin in Departures and take any of the more favourble options ie. fly with another airline or walk/swim to your destination.

    Thanks folks.

I didn't think of the 'duty free' bag, do they not even allow that alongside your hand-luggage?

I was planning on buying a few bottles before boarding as we'll be arriving at our destination late - do we have to make sure that this also fits into our hand-luggage?

Jesus this will be the first and last time I fly with this shower! I'm flying with a large group so I didn't have a choice

Yeah, as above, they will occasionally make you put the small bag in the carry on.
Also what they did to me last time was make me put it in the size cage just as I was about to board.
The stewardess had been walking up and down (before the gate opened) checking bags, asking people to check the size, passed me several times and waited till I got to the desk with 2 kids and a big queue behind, then made me try to fit it in...

Now I have one of these bags http://equipatrip.com/cabin-zero-ireland
Great size, fits in the size cage easily and opens like a suitcase so its easy to use.

Saw a guy trying to sneak his wife’s handbag, hidden under his coat, past the Ryanair boarding gate staff in Faro last month.

They caught him and made him squash it into his carry on case.

I have just bought a bag that is 59 x 37 x 19 and will be returning from holidays with Ryanair. Will I get away with the 4 extra cm in height because the width and depth are smaller by 4cm?

Impossible to say for sure. If they bring around their bag measuring thingy, and your bag is too tall to fit into it, they will probably make you check it. You can't take from one dimension measurement that is below the limit, and add it on where it is too big to make up for it. If your bag doesn't fit, it doesn't fit.

Sometimes, the RA staff don't physically measure the bags, they do it by eye. If you tie a sweatshirt to the bags handle, that may disguise the fact that it is too tall (I did that once) but there is no way to know for sure if that will work. These people do this all day long for a living, and can probably tell at a glance which bags are too tall/wide/long. It all depends on the staff that you get on the day really.

No if they measure it then it's going to be over the size
