    Hi All,

My 8 year old son is interested in getting into karting. Before I spend any money on buying a kart + gear, I would like to bring him karting on one of the karting tracks where you can pay for a number of laps.

The problem is the 3 tracks in Limerick all have karts for seniors and my 8 year old is a little on the small side (4ft 3) and can not go on the karts.

Does anyone know of a karting outfit that has karts for Juniors, where he would get feel for weather its something he would like to do ?

Also would like to know where the best place to buy a Kart for Cadets is ? I could buy private but don't know that much about the sport ?

What kind of budget would I need to get started and how much are the running costs ?

    Thanks in advance !

One of the Limerick tracks have just gotten a load of cadet karts...

And they're signed Michael Schumacher himself supposedly! :)

Just checked there on Facebook, it's National Karting Centre (the one out behind UL).

One thing you'd have to get used to if your son get's into karting is travelling all over the country to race meets. So there's no need to limit yourself to Limerick.

Thanks all, the Cadet (Junior) carts are due to arrive on Friday (Mar 1st), so will check it our and report back.

ScumLord, fair point, but for the purposes of getting the young fella to try it out would like to stay local so he can do a few weekends and see how he gets on.

Kartworld in Cork have a junior track with adjustable cadet karts if you were down that way.You could also go on a race meeting weekend and get the whole atmosphere in the one day. Watch the racing and go out karting, as the junior track is open to public while the senior track is used for racing.
