Phenom II problems

    Hi,
I have a problem with a Phenom II 965. It seems to me that the memory controller is damaged, but I don't know if this is even possible without it taking out the rest of the CPU.
Here's my setup and what I've done so far.

    mobo: MSI 770-c45, bios v1.9
CPU: PhenomII x4 965, running @3.4GHz so not overclocked.
    RAM: OCZ PC10600 Platinum Edition CL7 (4 x 1Gb)

All has been running fine for over a year (and 2.5 yrs previous with a different CPU). A couple of weeks ago I went to turn it on and it wouldn't post.
I suspected the RAM so checked with a single stick, posts ok, so I've run memtest on each stick in DIMM4. It won't post if I put a single stick in any of the other DIMM slots.
The RAM seems to be fine when tested individually and it will post when there's a stick in DIMM4 & DIMM2.
I've tried with other RAM also (G.Skill F3-10666CL9D) but it won't post with even a single stick it.

I've got a PhenomII x3 720 lying around, so I've tried that and it works fine, no issues with 4 sticks of the OCZ or 2 sticks of the G.Skill.

That leaves me looking at the CPU itself. When running with 2 sticks of RAM it seems stable enough (Prime95 for a couple of hours), but it will only work with 2 sticks of RAM and specifically only with the OCZ 1Gb modules.

Any ideas, Is there anything else I should try?
    Thanks for your help.
