By the way, its not a dodgey file, it was a setup file for websense, which is web security software!! Why would a Anti-virus or firewall automatically delete that!! This happened on a virtual machine.

Unbelievable. Am downloading it again onto a usb stick on the host machine.

what where you using to download it ?

    browser ?

the companies own accelerator ( completely worthless unless they support resume and even then resume should be supported by any half arsed site)

    a.n. other

    what version of windows ?
    shouldn't make a difference but...

what AV are you using - did you check the quarantien folder / settings / did the VM run out of space

one option would be to find the fragment *.part - search by size - and try to resume the download - make a backup copy if using a browser - you might have to drill down as the OS may hide the file

    wget rocks ;)
or start a torrent for the file, stop the torrent and drop the fragment copy in the folder and restart the torrent - with the option to detect/repair turned on

If you downloaded it using IE (I guess you may have if you clicked Run rather than Save), it should still be in your cache folder.

    "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.ie5"

I was downloading using IE. There was loads of space on VM. Not in Temp internet files, wouldn`t fit anyway since its set at 250mb.

I tried on host machine using IE to a USB but was interrupted.

Now downloading direct to host machine using Firefox ...1.3 of 2.4GB done; its only downloading at about 200kb/s.. my internet isn`t that slow.

Your internet download rate, and the file host's upload rate, are not always going to necessarily line up. You could have a 300Mbps fiber line and still only get a 10Mbps transfer rate if that's what the download source is capable of. Thats why bittorrent protocol is so damn popular, instead of relying on one strong upload rate, you could take an indefinite number of average/weak upload rates and have them work together into one massively fast download rate.

How fast is the USB? Is that the bottleneck?
Did you try a complete system search for all file > 2Gb? If it's a temp of some sort the name might be weird.

It's probably in one of the folders under C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

I got it downloaded in the end.. and...the software wasn`t compatible with my OS...

    Why not?

Host is Win 7 Home Premium

VM is Win 7 Enterprise Evaluation.

    Would not work with either!!

Because only Windows 2003 & 2008 Server are supported.

you could get an eval version of either but that's heading off in a different direction
